OK, say a Zombie apocolypse REALLY happened !! What skills do you posses from real life could help a group of survivors ?

IF there really was a real life zombie apocolypse and we were all suddenly ina DayZ type situation........... what skills could you bring to a pack of survivors that would be useful ?

Keep in mind limited electricity so all the blue collar office type people would have zero to offer unless they were closet survivalists or thoe people that have been preparing for the end of this way of life................Preppers i think they call themselves.

So does your current proffesion OR skills learned in military or some specialized training transfer into a real life zombie apocolypse OR are you really really good at something that a survival community would need your help and offer you a " spot " in their compound ?

I'm looking forward to hearing your responces..............well MOST of your responces anyway LOL

No particular Details about your current proffesion, no personal info at all. And please respect others input, if some1 says they can stack cans really really good then dont flame them please.

Or if they get high score on hunting simulator video games, let people express their opinions without fear of flaming please.

Heres the scenerio...................its really really happened, the zombie zpocolypse! A few weeks have passed and your wandering around in the woods barely alive. You come upon a survivalist camp. Defensible walls, water, weapons, ammo all the good stuff.

From the top of the walls they say they have a " spot" in their compound, and ask............

" If we let you in what can you offer the group as far as skills " ?? You want this safe spot and you want to help the group so your responce is ???

Remember these are no-nonesence heavily armed shooters so smart ♥♥♥♥ replies will get you killed or shunned.

No you cant use your M1Abrahms battle tank and run em all downnnnnnnnnn.

Try to be realistic pleaes : )

As a always do in these weird threads I'll reply first so you see where im comin from......

IRL im in construction, skilled in concrete, framing,electrical, barely any plumbing, drywall, no HVAC................ex proffesional cowboy so horses tamed and wild are not a problem. My back is more an issue from my younger days though.

I cant garden, hate farming but could do it if had to. Pretty poor shot IRL although i own SEVERAL firearms LOL So prolly not the best hunter.

I can repair most motorixed basic engines, no modern computerized stuff though. I can weld enough to make it strong but not pretty.

So basically im a builder with alot of experiance in " safe rooms " and reinfoecing structers with steaal and concrete as well as barb wire. Thats my reply................lets assume that gets me a " spot "

What youe answer to the question................." what can you offer our group that we cant live without for a " spot " in our compound ?? "

Even if I got in, I doubt I'd stay. I wouldn't want to be in a place where I have to worry about more than just myself.
As for my skills? I guess one is my persistence. If I want something done, it either happens or I keep trying until I can't try anymore. Also, my selflessness. I'm the type of guy who would risk his life for a stranger. Another, my shooting. I'm young, not retarded, I could headshot something from 100 metres with a pistol. Never underestimate the youth.
I'd live alone in a world like that. Wouldn't accept help. I'd patch myself up, find my own weapons, food, temporary shelter as I'd stay on the road. I'd avoid camps, and if I had to die for that, I would.

If you really want a good head start and live in America. Get hooked up with an Amish or Mennonite community. They already thrive without much electricity if any. Those boys could fell, prepare and construct a wooden stockade in a weekend! All that swinging axes, hammers and scythes coupled with the Lords zeal. Those zombies do not stand a chance...

Ps. protect your water source from those you “decline entry”. Many botanical poisons are virtually tasteless.. Hellebore has been used many time in history to crack a siege. Or they could just as easily utilise diesel or simply rotten meat…

Energy ! People will be completly freaked out over losing the " life " they had before. The sight of a working light bulb would provide tremendous emotional comfort. A moral boost that would be hard to beat, especiallyt as the nights are flippin pitch black in DayZ LOL.

Batteries would be plentiful and wind or water or even people powered systems to re-charge them will be critical.

Communication would also add range to scavenging as well as defences as far as reaction time, hunting would also be improved.

This person would end up being Inspector Gadget or McGuyver : )

WOW................Amazing point ! Hes right, those communities are basically already living in the zombie apocolypse, just no zombies !

They grow their own food, vegtables of any kind and raise beef,pork,veal, chickens ect.

They can cut trees, mill them to any sizr they need and build strong structures CRAZY FAST.

They have all the tools and knowledge for 100's of years.............anf rom TV they already have a police force " The Amish Mafia " LOL Seriously hes spot on, the Amish people are the perfect example of survivalists in the modern world.

I am no MacGyver by any means. I am merely a man sized walking repository of “usefull / useless” information. It is not the knowledge that is my gift. It is how I can link / transpose / transfer the knowledge. To me everything is linked and the human ability to mentally “breakdown” problems and “build” solutions in the minds eye is crucial, making the most of what you have available combined with basic concepts comes easy to all.

I am a square peg in a round world. My unorthodox thought process lets me see some problems as others do not. The simplest solution for a simple man.

For example: Look at the methods used by POW escapes in WW2. Tin cans and bed slats against barbed wire and machine guns….

The loss of so much technology and knowledge in one generation will be mind-blowing.
The creation of a neo-primal subculture of mankind fighting for resources with those last aging remnants of the holders of the “Lost Ways”. Both groups fighting off hordes of Zombies. It would be interesting times to say the least…
