Clearly you have not played or don't remember the writing for FO1 and FO2...
I just said I haven't played them
but I'll play them soon since they're only $5 a piece right now

Missed that part where "hey I didn't play the originals but I'm going to talk out of my ***" ... but clearly you don't understand that FO3 IS BLAND! Why even argue that something "isn't as bland as people say" when you don't even have the experience of the first games to back up your arguement?!?!

The writing in FO1 and FO2 has flavour and uniquiness, not to mention the random things you come upon pay homage to a number of very popular things in science fiction. They also have very quirky characters that are funny.

FO3 has no punch in the writing whatsoever, bland is what it is because the guys who wrote for FO1, and FO2 weren't writing for FO3... They actually pulled one of the guys from Interplay (may it rest in peace) who worked on the orginal games to work on New Vegas which was why their was some flavour to the writing. At least the characters are unique and have personality... FO3 omg how many same looking power stations, campgrounds they put in there just for the sake of sticking in a location... and none of them were interesting, funny or had any real purpose. Every location on in FO1, FO2, and even New Vegas had purpose or if it was non mission related it had some quirky thing, or humor to it...

Which is why I hope that FO4 is more like NV... my point is made... now go play FO1, and FO2 so you can understand what I mean... and at the very least enjoy them... because the writing in them is great!
With Bethesda releasing no information whatsoever about Fallout 4 so far as far as I know, it feels like there will be an ACTUAL post-apocalyptic world before it happens...
Hopefully a little darker than New Vegas, but this franchize hasnt let me down since the 90's. Need to work on immersion for the rift dev kit 2. I cant wait.

I am enjoying FO1 and later will enjoy FO2, but I think you're partially wrong about the locations in FO3 being bland and repetitive (I'm not comparing it to FO1 and FO2), frankly I had just as much fun, if not more fun exploring in FO3 than I did in NV, because even though FO3's locations can be a bit repetitve NV felt way more empty, even when you came to a gang hideout or outpost it would be only 3-4 guys usually, the legion and NCR were pathetic when it came to combat, and even the deathclaws felt easier in NV then in FO3, in FO3 the combat was more difficult and exciting than in NV, and there was always something to look for either in FO3, either weapons and ammo at raider hideouts, or trapped humans at super mutant bases (also the super mutants in FO3 were a lot tougher, I got sniped with a fat man by a super mutant who was hanging out on top of a building in the DC ruins), and the missions in NV felt more repetitive than in FO3, the missions in NV really just felt like you were running errands for people with no real gain for you other than reputation with that faction, which you could just as easily get by killing their enemies, letting them respawn and killing them again, and there was no real reason to ever do things like actually go see the great khans (I don't remember there being a reason) other than to get some sort of 'help' at the final battle which you don't really need because by the end of the game even the strongest members of the legion are no tougher than bloatflies, and there was possibly one main storyline quest that requires you to meet the BoS if there was even one main story quest that required you to meet them, and you could basically do whatever you want in terms of killing ncr or legion because later on you can just do one quest and wipe away the bad rep you got from killing thousands of ncr/legion soldiers, whereas in FO3 there was a good reason to go almost everywhere and everything felt like it connected nicely

if you found any random locations in NV that are so significant that they are worth making a point about, please actually be specific, and frankly I agree that interplay/obsidian is better at making unique and interesting characters, but I'll get back to you on the whole theing about them making better/more interesting locations

The random locations in NV at the very least had a cool weapon pickup like a Sniper rifle, or a locked box with extra supplies, the random cave with I giant Bloatfly loaded with supplies, or the Giant Deathclaw, the characters had personality as well, very individual personality, even references to the original Canibal from FO1 and the list goes on. I'll repeat what I wrote in my previous post "FO3 omg how many same looking power stations, campgrounds they put in there just for the sake of sticking in a location" There were so many locations like that, which had no main quest, or side quest purpose, or even interesting pickups in the locations they were the same same plain dots on a map, almost like they were using them as fillers. The only honest attempt at an homage to the original game was mentioning Harold...

You are starting to remind of type of people from the past who argued endlessly the world is flat, yet you hadn't traveled around the world... although you continue to be adamant the world is flat!

You can't argue whether something is or isn't when you don't even thoroughly know the games you are trying to prove a point about!

I've replayed FO1, FO2 dozens of times over, and I've even replayed FO Tactics a couple of times. I've replayed FO3 and also replayed them with almost all the mods available on Moddb, and replayed FONV and have ♥♥♥♥♥♥ all the achievements... not that the achievements matter but the point being you have to replay it in order to get them. Replaying that many times you spend a huge amount of time to get to know the story and the characters and discover all the hidden locations, and easter eggs... The sense of humor in the little things like in the Random Encounters in the originals is what make them special. There was no quirks in the writing or surprises like that in FO3.... there just wasn't. The problem you have is you simply didn't know the game from the very beginning, so you are basing your opinion on what you experienced from FO3... which wasn't even made by the original creators... Now if FO1, FO2 never existed and FO3 was the very first in the series... well I'd say good game, nice mechanics yada yada yada, but the reality is it's judged on feel from the originals. NV did pick up the slack in that it made several references to the original games with mentioning characters, or a random encounter where the person was related to so and so back in Shady Sands and so forth... but those references only mean something to those who know FO1, and FO2 really well.

I stand by my original statment from my very first post... I hope with FO4 that it has flavor like FO1, FO2, and FONV.... and not like the bland FO3 (and thankfully it was more interesting when they added the DLCs because prior to the DLCs it was beyond vanilla)...

fine, whatever, I give up, maybe FO3 was a little bland compared to the other fallouts, but you are forgetting a few other homages such as the crashed alien ship where you got the alien blaster, and dogmeat, not to mention all the other references that aren't to the older fallout games
And I still enjoyed the more serious tone of FO3, even if comparing it to the other games makes it seem bland

Dude I was not going to list every single Random Encounter that was in the originals...LOL Why would I? I know what they are... and that's why I put "and the list goes on"

And Dogmeat in FO3 was NOT the same Dogmeat in the originals...

I'm glad you are giving up... because it made so sense in the first place you arguing a point when you even hadn't played through the first games..
Fallout 4?
Is there any information on it getting a release date yet?? I'm actually dying to know will it be released on steam also?
It's coming 2015
Its set to be released alongside Half Life 3
It's never coming.
hope it, the come, of course
It's coming out tommorrow.
