Seriously though; I have only ever seen Akira, and it was very good. Don't know where to go from there, any suggestions anyone? I like giant robots if that helps.
Personally, I think some anime deserved to be watched like "Monster" by Naoki Urasawa (mispelt?) because of the action, mystery and drama. Naoki is one hell of a writer, mind you.
You can give the Gundam Series a try, Code Geass got a lot of positive feedback, and there are those I haven't heard of of course. Check out myanimelist.net and look under the tag "mecha".
To the OP: Admitted, a lot of anime overdo it with the fanservice, and I as anime-fan don't like it as well, there is a long list of anime which are worthwhile though... Ghost in the Shell, Stein's;Gate, Psycho-pass, Cowboy Bebop, Perfect Blue, Battle Angel Alita (a.k.a. Gunnm) etc. In the titles I mentioned (and many more) the fanservice is either minimalized or practically non-existent. The anime-universe is vast, and if you search, you will find something you like. If you don't like the style in general, then that's a matter of taste. I hope I did spark your interest a bit and you will at least try to find some info about the titles I listed and see that anime are a LOT more than fanservice, if not... fair enough. Cheers!
Oh, and I've seen Hetalia, I hated that. Was it supposed to be well-regarded with the fans?
I don't dig Hetalia as well. As for Gundam... the franchise is over 30 years old, so the material it has to offer varies in terms of length, quality and themes. If you're new to Gundam, try Gundam 00, and maybe later some of the older series, which may have a lower quality of animation and drawing but are a lot more developed regarding plot, characters and depth in general.
i cant even describe the non-sensical crap i see these days
I hate anime too, and ♥♥♥♥ the feelings of anybody who does.
Robotech. That one has as much Giant Robots as you could imagine.
As far as anime goes I could care less really, there are only a handful of Anime I like and most of them are simply for Nostalgia (Example: Azumanga Daioh, Robotech) The only ones I could really reccemend in a serious light would be Cowboy Bebop and Wolfs rain. Besides those the rest i've seen are just soft core porn with overly dramatic/annoying Characters/Storys.
Robotech added to the list, thanks.
