Speaking as someone fitting your description when I was still in school.
I go to community college cause I ♥♥♥♥♥♥ around in high school and you can really see this there also in the attitudes that different demographics of students have, mainly international students and citizens. The students who are citizens pay almost nothing (in college terms) for tuition at a CC. Some classes I have taken were so cheep that the text book for the class cost more than the class it was for! This means that there is no financial loss for dropping a course or failing. Sure there is the whole thing like the student's parents would be angry, or they might loose out on financial aid, and it looks bad on their transcript, but other than that there is no responsibility placed on the student, there is no risk. However when compared to an international student who pays over one thousand dollars per unit, who had to take tests, pay for housing, be full time and not have a job there is a lot of pressure on that student to do well and make the most of their education because of high investment that they have.
TLDR: Schools don't teach the students to take responsibility for their work, which really should be one of the main focuses of grade schools.
Google doesn't teach a person to think! Or to be responsible!
Touche! I have a 14 yr old daughter who has to be taught critical thinking at home! Because her teachers seem to place a higher value on opinions rather than the facts!
