What did you think about Cowboy Bebop ending? SPOILERS

Just rewatched Cowboy Bebop for the first time in many many years and I have to say that the ending, which I did not like as a kid, is even worse now.

As a kid I was basically sad that a character I liked died. Simple as that.

After watching it now, it kind of ruins the whole character of Spike for me. The way the show ended basically shows that Spike is selfish and pathetically weak character wise. He is driven by revenge and the past without taking into account the present. He shows utter disregard for the life he has built. The way Spike dies also shows that throughout the whole series he is pretty much the only character that does not grow in a meaningful way.

The ending wouldn't make the slightest sense if you've never endured extreme conditions in life, I see it as perfectly sensible by that point of time and he probably sees death as a release from his suffering.
