OP you need to go to your router login page most of the time its one of the following
http://192.168.1.1/
http://192.168.2.1/
http://10.10.10.1/
http://10.10.10.10/
Login as the admin I assume you are the network admin if not get the admin to set it up for you. Otherwise look on the bottom/side of the device and you should find the default login information. Once have signed in you should see a function somewhere in the router called QoS (Quality of Service) enable this for your computer MAC/IP address. Once enabled make sure you set your PC for highest priority see this {LINK REMOVED}screenshot
To retrieve your MAC or IP address open Command Prompt as admin and type the following without quotes "ipconfig /all" you should be shown something like {LINK REMOVED}this
Edit:
You should also note that if the router uses IP address for QoS you will have to update the record alot unless you setup a static IP which I will not go into. (google it) This will also suck away bandwidth from her experience and will cause her videos to either lag or fail to buffer. Just as you are experiencing. Also a new router will not provide you better internet speeds. You will have to purchase a better internet package from your ISP.
Edit two:
To clarify for future readers "!=" means "not equal to".
I might try later to get to the router login page. And thanks for your help so far.
Edit: I looked at more screenshots, and it seems that there should be a Status, Connection, Firewall, System, and a Login/Logout tab. I only have a Status, Connection, and System tab. It also appears that the port forwarding options are under the Firewall tab, which I do not have.
Forwarding Ports will not give you more bandwidth than other devices on the network. Your PC NIC might be 100Mbps that doesnt matter almost all modern NAT devices are 10/100 devices.. Some like mine are 10/100/1000 however actually using the higher internet speeds will require good line connection, and proper ISP package.
In the firewall section you should see "QoS (Download)" and "QoS (Upload)" based on this picture[upload.wikimedia.org] You will need to enable the "QoS (Download)" and give your device more priority
Edit: I've just seen you do not have a firewall tab. If the device in question does not support a SPI firewall or QoS nothing you can do other than trying to update the firmware. I have not had a type of router like that before I cant walk you through that. You should be warned though if you attempt to flash newer firmware make sure its for the model of the device you have, and DO NOT use a wireless connection. You will brick the device making it an expensive paperweight.
I cannot be held responsible if you attempt to flash the device with newer firmware and manage brick it. However most modern routers provide an emergency service that will kick in if the main firmware fails allowing you to reflash the device.
Another method would be if the device was provided by your ISP company you could ask for a newer model that supports QoS.
