PS3 Question
Thinking of getting 1, my question is do I have to get online whenever I want to play a game(single player game)? Or does it work the same way as PS2?

Don't get one. Sony is a massive DRM pusher.

Get DRM free games, and invest in a PC.
Actually, I don't think the PS3 has any DRM, not anymore than Steam anyways (DRM free PC gaming? Where did you get that from?), and you most certainly don't have to be online to play single-player games.

The PS3 is DRM, made tangible.

Sony eredeti hozzászólása:
ACCESS TO OR USE OF THE SYSTEM SOFTWARE IN THE SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT INC. ("SCE")'S PlayStation®3 COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM UNIT ("PS3™ system") IS EXPRESSLY CONDITIONED UPON ACCEPTANCE OF THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT.
This means- you can't even turn the PS3 on unless you agree to the legal and DRM.

Steam was made AS a DRM platform, and is marketed AS A DRM platform.

Some can be played offline, like some retail discs.

Some require online activation, like an account sign in, or a DRM activation.

Some require online, even if you paid for a license.

Also, you're an idiot.

Was suspecting its a DRM infested console but wasn't 100% sure. Thank you for the heads up Miss!

I'm not sure what you are talking about. PS3 only has DRM in the sense that you need a PS3 to play PS3 games. Just like you need a PC to play PC games.

The PS3 works like a PS2, like you asked. It doesn't have to be online.

If you want to play PS3 games, get the console. If not, then you won't need one.

You don't. There are legal agreements you must agree with to use a PS3 out of the box, and unless you feel like living in a country where the agreement is invalid or illegal, or make a clean room implementation that's compatible- it looks like you have a digital restriction management box.

Yes, and no.

The PS3 has an online store, that sells licenses- that require you to be online to get. There are some disc games that don't require online activations, and there are some that do.

The major consoles all have these legal chains, they're not your friends, they exist to make money.

Yes. Yo do. If you want to play PS3 games legally, you need a PS3.

I have no idea what you are babbling about. Buy a PS3, plug it in, stick a game in and start playing. That's it. You are not legally in any trouble, you are not going to get sued, you will not face any consequenses for playing your PS3.

Ah, yes. You need to be online to buy games from an online store. Thank you for stating the obvious. Since you don't actually need to buy games from the online store, you don't need to be online either. The PS2 had online functions too but they were not in any way necessary to play games.

What singleplayer PS3 game requires online activation?

What? If the OP wants to play games that are PS3 exclusives he has to buy the console. What does that have to do with consoles being his friend? Guess what? Valve is a company that exists to make money too. They are not your friends either.

Haha :D I've never seen such bizarre fearmongering in my life. I better go lock my door before the FBI comes to take my PS3 away.
As long as you don't buy stuff in the online-store there won't be any DRM-troubles awaiting you , just like Jade said. Pack the Game in the Ps and start playing.

Specifically how does the PS3 have DRM? Give me specific examples of this supposed DRM in action.

And you can't play Steam games unless you agree to their agreement. In fact, you can't use most software, even free software, and even software that you buy a disc for, unless you sign an agreement. Actually, I've never seen or heard of any software that you don't have to sign an agreement to use.

Exactly. And the PS3 dosen't have any more DRM than Steam; I'm comparing to Steam since we are all using Steam. Also, if you're so anti-DRM, why are you using Steam?

The first link shows free software, that is also DRM free. So there are a DRM free PC games, good job. As for the second link, however...
You have to activate a lot (If not most) of the games that you get through Humble on Steam. That kind of defeats the purpose of listing it here. EDIT: Mr. Tuetep has proved me wrong on this one. Please refer to his comment below.

Actually, most PS3 games can be played offline, even if you opt to buy it digitally. And the games that have DRM have DRM because the companies that made the game choose to implment it. Sony dosen't put DRM on specific games and none on others.
Miss Futa eredeti hozzászólása:

That was rude, and uncalled for. Let's try and have a civilized discussion.
NOTE: My "I laugh at thee!" comment wasn't an insult, it was a joke, though after I posted it I thought that it could be taken as offensive, and changed it; obviously you got a hold of it before that. Also, I would fix my new comments being listed as quotes, but I can't find the problem, unfortunately.

As far as it goes, PS3 games can be lent, there's no DRM there.
Certain games have an activation key, for example The Sims 3 - which requires an EA account for you to use any online features in The Sims 3.

Incorrect, most Humble Bundle games offer a DRM-free version too, if you hit the 'Windows' -page, instead of the 'Steam -keys'. Although, recently there have been a lot of games there that require the Steam -client.

I'll add http://www.gog.com to the list.

However, like said - Sony themselves don't add the DRM to the games. It's the publisher themselves who choose to do so, if they wish.

Really, Humble does have DRM free versions of games? Cool! All the more reason to buy from them.

That has nothing to do with my OP. I have a high end gaming desktop computer, it doesn't mean that I should ignore consoles. There's many games that are stricly for the consoles & never will be ported to the PC.
