Zoos
What is your opinion on zoos? For a long time I believed that they are like prisons for animals... because they have to stay in the one same enclosure for their whole lives, every day. Never getting to truly explore nature like they are meant to.

But I was talking to someone a while ago and they said they think zoos are good for animals, because the animals get a lot of nice attention by the workers, get spoiled with food, etc... And they live a more peaceful life, like wild animals in nature constantly face dangers such as predators

So now I don't know what exactly to think about zoos. I'm still leaning more towards the side that it's like a prison for animals.. and it's sad. Especially for very intelligent animals, like gorillas. But I don't know. What do you think?

I agree with you, zoos should be banned.

Maybe enclosed large wildlife (like city botanic gardens) for exotic reptilians, pet birds, farm animals etc but the rest belongs to the wild.

It was weird to see emus in a forest behind a wire fence.

If I wanted to feel how the animals feel I'd go do a crime and find out.
Umm, well, even though I like seeing the animals because they are cute, I still feel like they belong in the wild. The only good that I see coming from zoos is keeping the animals from becoming extinct; even so, to think that they live their whole lives in cages being gawked at makes me feel terrible. Kind of like all of the sea mammals, they spend their whole lives in an aquarium when they could be free in the endlessly huge ocean. So, I guess I am just torn on how to feel about zoos.
I think it depends on how much space the animals have. Some zoos are prison like conditions, some are quite good.
As long as they are run properly, and the animals are well looked after, then I have no problems with zoo's.
Most of them deal with the preservation and repopulation of species these days. Without them you would have way more extinct animals.
Fun fact but if a chimpanzee somehow got loose they have a “shoot to kill” policy. If you try to tranquilize the chimp it will just make it angrier. By time he falls asleep the damage would already be done.

A small price to pay for knowledge. Not many animals would even know the definition of prison anyway.

And if you try to release them back to the wild, they will die within days.
the wild is too dangerous, and zoo's are too inhumane, however there has been major improvements to turn zoos into actual sanctuaries for animals, so i don't think we should be 100% anti zoo's now.
I think zoo is OK, out there is not really safe place. but not all life are meant to be put into a zoo.

well, some of human are put in there because they dont know how to behave themselves on the outside.

captivity and freedom, for human being? when freedom is a larger prison for the thing you cant see but cant touch, or things that people can see but cant understand.

some people will choose captivity over freedom,

freedom is for those who knows how to use it, either to benifit themselves or a group of people.

if one person doesn't know how to use freedom, he will be safer in prison. for himself and for the rest of the world.

I am using a lot speech, and my ban is less frequent, but that doesn't say I am on the right path, I could be just a big mouth politician, seek to gain from this great divide, and impregnant some poor women.

and by doing things this way, I am burden potential child with symbolism ,I have to be really confident about myself, truth is I am desperate.

If the chimpanzee's get out they have a "shoot to kill" policy!?!? Even the chimpanzee's are "packing heat" in the States! 🐵

zoos are important for research and preservation, they also are important to educate people about wildlife, humans have the biggest impact on it after all... are most zoos cruel? yes, they have to improve a lot but their idea is more good than bad

Sadly, they are a necessary evil. Conservation Work and Breeding programs are important.
Zoo were invented to be used to feed humans.

The more dangerous the animal the better. The early Zoo before modern time had Tigers and crocodiles. They eat flesh which suited the animals for this purpose.

Some rulers had odd rules where they would assassinate their servant if they gave the signal and then the servant would have to reach the gate of the castle to be spared, most likely the rule of the game was for them to never come back or be killed.

They were as well used in the Arena in Rome which is why a Zoo was needed to keep these animals, the arena kept the animals inside.

The zoo was something that only the most powerful had afford, showing he control humans and animals alike.
Freedom is an illusion. It's basic economics, really. More food means more eaters, until everyone is just surviving. And when you're starving to death, your only option is to find food.

The fence, then, is a formality.
