Quitting Tobacco Success Stories
Former Smoker here looking for some encouraging stories to hopefully finally kick the habit for good. I gave up cigarettes about 6 months ago and transitioned to nicotine pouches. Really wanting to give up these also. Anybody here fight a similar battle?

Smoking is bad. I can’t encourage you to quit but I can discourage you to. Lol.

I quit smoking in 2014 and it went rather smooth. But I had been slowly smoking less and less for the 2 years before, but I always was a light smoker (so to speak) anyway. Was on a family weekend and the only reason I always went outside to smoke was because I got asked. That's when I realised that it really was just a habit. Gave the pack away and quit, had no difficulties afterwards.

I'm quite happy it never was an actual battle for me.

Good luck and keep at it. :cozybethesda:

I have given up weed.
I have given up speed.
I have given up cocain.
I have given up ecstacy.
I have given up ketamine.
I have given up heroin.

I can't quit nicotine.

Don't smoke or vape kids, you might think you're in control but it will control you before you realise it.

I quit cold turkey, I was smoking a pack a day and all of a sudden I went f*** this, it's getting WAYYY too expensive. It was hard at first but when that little nagging voice telling you to light one or you'll go insane, you just tell it that you'd rather die and hold your ground. Your will is stronger.

Going to really try and stick with it over the next few months. The number of times I would crush my pack and throw it in the trash just to go buy another one is just terrible.
Thank you for sharing.

It seriously gets its hooks into you. Not worth it in the slightest.

Yeah, I've seen family members struggle with quitting, often smoking again after 6 months or so. It can be really tough. Some replaced it with other things, like food. Also not the way to go.

So yeah, try and stick with it.

I don't smoke but my dad used to. He stopped because of his kids and kids are expensive to take care of. Thanks dad! :D:

I quit smoking June 9, 2002. I had been smoking off and on since I was 12. I bought the Nicoderm QC patches and put one on that morning after tossing half a pack of cigarettes away. I forgot a patch several days later and asked for a smoke and could not stand the taste of it. I haven't smoked one since. I even quit smoking weed in June or July 2005.

Just think of how much you are saving in money. If you bought a pack a day at $4.50 (not counting taxes), you would spend $1642.50 a year. Think about what you could buy with that extra cash.

Smoking cigarettes is like paying for your suicide but it’s a very very slow process. The long term effects aren’t pretty at all.

my father managed to give it up for about a year and fell back on bad habits again. i tend to stay away from him because he chain smokes and i'm literally taking my life into my own hands trying to go into any room where he is, he especially likes rooms without a window so the smoke just stays there and knows it keeps me out when i visit him.

i've never liked cigarettes, never liked being near smokers or their stench either. my sister and brother aren't smokers either, we all consider it a disgusting habit none of us want.

Glad i never took up that disgusting habit.

I can't help you because I have never been interested in that habit. I hope you find the strength to quit someday. I wish you the best of luck, OP.
