For example, the STALKER game is taken place in Ukraine, therefore it's much easier to find ammo and guns that belong to the AK family (or the entirety of Warsaw pact arsenals)

A quote from Nick Irving (an American sniper known as the Grim Reaper that killed tons of enemy soldiers): "The Taliban kicked our *** for 20 years with an AK and flip flops"

AK 47 is based on AS44 and maybe they took something from the StG
But on topic AK47. It's reliable.
i'll speak of the 1965 era of both rifles.
the older model 47's were a superior firearm honestly in terms of power and range, accuracy, it was basically a sniper weapon. could fire when wet, muddy or sandy, and would just be a bullet type writer.
my main gripe with it is the dangerous charging handle. if you needed to expose the breech for whatever reason, and you didn't have a good grip on that tiny nub of steel perhaps from shooting all day, or the rigors of combat, it would slam shut and the bolt would cycle and fire by itself sometimes. trigger pull not required.
the m16 features a charging handle you pull back like a bowstring. index and middle finger required. takes a second or two longer, but the handle is much more safe.
