Doomsday Clock 2024 Predictions
Hi everybody

Lets make a "fun" little prediction thread about the Doomsday Clock.
For those that don´t know what it is.

The Doomsday Clock is a design that warns the public about how close we are to destroying our world with dangerous technologies of our own making. It is a metaphor, a reminder of the perils we must address if we are to survive on the planet.

When the Doomsday Clock was created in 1947, the greatest danger to humanity came from nuclear weapons, in particular from the prospect that the United States and the Soviet Union were headed for a nuclear arms race. The Bulletin considered possible catastrophic disruptions from climate change in its hand-setting deliberations for the first time in 2007.

It is currently 90 seconds to midnight

I will award the one with the closest guess (being first with an unedited post wins over others) and also just other funny, smart or well just random ones tbh.

Want to read more or read various years? go here
https://thebulletin.org/doomsday-clock/

My prediction.

It will be 65 secounds to midnight in 2024. Why? well because of all the conflicts happening and major issues with the enviroment.

At the end here, I just want to say. Please be friendly to everybody and repsect the various guesses and reason why.

The supercollider is a result looking for a question. While it may prove something, I am not holding my breath. The entire project is most likely a bit of a waste of time.

Can we just set it to midnight and get it over with? I can't take another year of disappointment.

I think that would be counter productive and I would mean that we were about to go extict.

I won't entertain that stupid clock.

Yet you commented in the thread.
It would be more fun if you made a guess.
I'm just following Off-Topic traditions.

If you would be, you would just in on the fun and put a prediction.
What do you think? where will it land?
Extra question. Are you scared about 2024?

The real answer is that it's hard to say. I'm not worried about 2024. Things are well in the world, for now, and while there might be a handful of severe issues on the horizon, I'll worry when I see them emerge.

It's a clock that assumes we're anywhere near the worst. I don't believe that to be the case, yet. Of course they'll knock it closer, they'll probably knock it down to 60 seconds by February, just for fun.

I hear many people on this forum mock "doomers" for always assuming the worst is already here. I'll join them, except I won't give out any free passes just because "science" is slapped on the front.

You think the world is well atm?
With all the current conflicts? Nuclear powers at eachother throats, rogue states that might get them and our entire enviroment issue?

The Doomsday clock is not supposed to cause fear and tell we are all doomed, it is there as a cautious reminder, that we need to put words to action, if we want to survive in the long run.

i thik it is a matter of time until ai zombification of populace through implants, we already are quite incompetitive compared to social media which is mostly ai, that is we live the "social media" life or what ai algorithms come up with regardless if its good or bad, even though most social media "events" are for "good", and so what it means it will slowly become one of the "living nightmares" wherein humanity will live through some crporate policy ie 1984 style go to work for "fun".

That sure is afun take.
But what is your estimated time guess?
Xautos 17. nov. 2023 kl. 5:09
like all those apocalyptic predictions of years past, from Y2K to the end of the Mayan clock and a cult's original estimate being wrong, revising it and still being wrong. This is likely to be just as much of a hoax as all the others.

yeah i mean US and Russia have enough boom to make 90% of the planet uninhabitable.

if anything is going to wipe out the humans, its the humans themselves.

but what comes to the planet and global warming caused by humans is nothing to worry about.
the planet has gone through worse things and harsher things. the planet will survive and life will begin anew with or without the human interference.

I don't get the clock, honestly.

Midnight is destruction. Ok. What is the other reference point? Is there another reference point? How am I supposed to interpret one second? Is 90 seconds to midnight close, or far? What's the earliest the clock has ever been set? What was the world like then? Why was that point, that point and not, like 12:01 AM? What's the point of having a span of twelve hours if only the last couple of minutes are ever used?
Jolly Devil 17. nov. 2023 kl. 8:13
These things always just remind me of those Christian people who say, it's coming to an end on 8/24/23. I mean 9/14/23. I mean 12/12/23. Oh I mean this date...

It's just stupid. None of the are cool enough to have the world end in our life time. People been saying the world was gonna end for thousands of years and it never happens. So prob on 3/12/24.

If it's going to happen they won't call it doomsday.

They will call it the great reset, the next big chapter, the future. It's going to sound positive.

I think it's good because it's positive. :erune:
