Last I heard the people who purchased them, and then downgraded the free software, were a series of shell companies with indeterminate owners.

So there isn't a source?

Considering the free version doesn't have any less actual detection than the paid. You just get convenience features with the paid like live scanning and scheduled scanning.

The only real features anymore are real-time shields. Nothing else is remotely effective, except for removing AquaKittyDX from your computer. Which windows can do itself now.

Avast! and MWB used to have real-time shields on their free versions.

Also Kaspersky is owned by Russia and doesn't snoop for or block their backdoors, and McAfee is owned by the UK and doesn't snoop for or block theirs.

Every Anti-virus out there fits into the Five Eyes surveillance schema, and thus anyone who can access their backdoors (most children) can simply bypass them.

Unfortunately, our species isn't mature enough to function without some sort of boundaries set by an agreement and enforced by an administrative power. Regulations and laws as they are now are all but perfect, but they still provide a semblance or illusion of stability. I don't have blind faith in them but they seem to be doing a somewhat acceptable job... to varying degrees depending on the country/culture.

I don't really understand your concept of biological autonomy; do all my cells have to phase through matter without my brain's consent to function?

Kind of like how Hydras don't think, they just ride ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥?

Nothing in a human body happens without the brain's consent, in fact, the brain issues orders for every process in the body. Whether it is a reflexive or willful one, it's all controlled by the nervous system. I don't think my biology knowledge holds up enough to go into detail how much autonomy our cells DO have but it's most certainly limited. Even the metabolic processes are controlled by the central nervous system.

I think UI skin because I prefer things like dark mode or something.

Firefox is pretty permissive with its themes, although I have heard that many themes break browsers as if they were designed to do so.

Ah that's quite shame to know the theme may break browsers. Not like I have many tabs. -_-

From the article;

Improving content filtering support by providing more generous limits in the declarativeNetRequest API for static rulesets and dynamic rules

The latter specifically applies to ad blockers, with Google noting how “extension developers provided convincing evidence” that led the team to increase a previously imposed limit and relax other safety-derived restrictions.

It seems it isn't as doom and gloom as being spread. Ublock Origin may be able to work just as well along with other ad blockers.
Care to give insight that Ublock may work in future or in case it might break? If so, there might be another alternative?

I've been using Opera for years. Who even still uses Chrome with so many better alternatives?

No, organs operate on a push rather than pull system. They do their own thing and then check in with the brain, to see what the body's resources are like and whether they can dump their waste products yet. Even trees and mushrooms operate like this.

What you're describing is what sponges do. Or hydras, since they're basically on that level.

The built-in adblock is just an extension that's built in. It still needs the same permissions that a regular extension does.

The dude who invented Javascript is the CEO of Brave. I ain't worried. You are acting like nothing can be hacked or exploited.

I'd also like to point out that an overwhelming majority of people have gotten used to an ad free internet.

Let me tell you what goes through my head to allow me to not worry about this:

Big tech is trash. Big tech has gotten this big by stomping out competition everywhere they go. By going this far to shut down the blocking of ads they merely open the door for alt-tech to swoop in and begin ACTUALLY taking customers away this time.

We basically need big tech to screw up this badly to get people away from them.

Even the people who are watching ads for some odd reason complain heavily about them.

The amount of users who use an ad-block are greatly outweighed by users who don't.

The insight is the quote from the article. Until it's rolled out, we won't know for sure.

I guess I have to wait for more news from ublock reddit. Maybe to find another alternative.

Don't need a real-time shield. Just gotta remember to run scan regularly.

The stuff you said about Five Eyes is just untrue.

You know it looks less legitmate when you do this. If you walked away it would look normal, but it's really weird when I do it.

Less legitimate than saying unproven information? I doubt it.

Could be, been a while since I opened a biology textbook. We are kind of getting off-topic a wee bit. Biology discourse in a discussion about browser extensions could actually be tangentially related. Whether the other participants would see it that way... that's debatable. Better not risk it.

if you follow the directions and ask questions if you want to change something you're fine.
here's one example of that happening: https://discourse.pi-hole.net/t/what-ports-are-required-for-pihole-to-work/6203

I'm not asking for customer service help; I'm asking why this insecure hardware is so popular for privacy uses. Is it the simplicity, and easy access to knowledge bases meant to help diagnose and work around issues? Such as the issues built into the hardware.
The answer to your concern is listed in the link provided. Feel free to ask the question there to those that know the product.

Yes, I got the news on my X/Twitter feed, thanks! Let's see if gorhill will continue with uBO Lite which is supposed to work on the MV3 platform.

FYI, for those of us using Dandelion Sprout's lists and concerned he will not be moving onto the MV3 platform, that statement has been eliminated from his GitHub profile, which is not surprising as he also announces he's paid freelancer for Adblock Plus. Money, money, money. :steamhappy:
Some are still getting loud and noisy about content blockers "stealing" revenue from websites but for those of us not inclined, to each his/her own. Watch your ads until you're blue in the face and your browser slows to a crawl. But the rich still get richer.:steamsalty:

Time to fire up the Wii so I can watch in Opera.
But how do I install adblockers in opera(specifically for the Wii)?
And yes I know there's a youtube "GAME" for the Wii.
