Not using ad or script blockers is why if you have just a few tabs open you'll notice your browser can take 8gb or more of RAM.

What is the browser doing that it needs to gobble up that much ram?

Often running scripts, trackers, cookies, code, some of which can even result in memory leaks, spread out across several scripts per page one just one tab, which can multiply for every tab, it doesn't take a lot. Block those scripts and the problem vanishes, and you, the viewer of those pages lose nothing.

Firefox has script blocking so does Brave I think

Brave is basically Chromium, which is basically Chrome. For a while they actually used uBlock to provide their script blocking services before switching to something else. But, do you thing Google is going to stop at uBlock? They're just the most popular one at the moment. Google is targeting the very idea that YOU think you're going to have any control over your own browser and they have to start somewhere.

Never forget that the end user is the real product here.
They can sell my data I willingly divulge.
But I'm getting 80% of that ♥♥♥♥.

Is anyone seriously still not using Mozilla?
I had to stop cause Mozilla is dumb at making intelligent end user decisions for their desktop versions of Firefox and Thunderbird. Mind you, the Mobile Firefox is awesome.

The amount of users who use an ad-block are greatly outweighed by users who don't.

Got proof to those claims? Cuz Google seems to think otherwise or they wouldn't be going this far to ban it.

In the not too distant future, we'll be able to visibly see this reported trendline of increased adblocker usage post YT's decision.

(Basically it's an incorrect claim. It's under 50% usage right now)

Frankly, I'd move my ass right over to firefox or resort to only using reddit for my internet surfing needs.

Companies like Google only have the power people give them. Stop using their products and services if they start doing things that are against your interest, and take your patronage elsewhere. I've already scrapped a lot of companies that do not serve my interests/needs anymore, Microsoft being one of them.

Hard to watch youtube on a text-only browser. Neat that later versions had javascript so youtube could still check if you had a blocker plugin installed.

YouTube hasn't given me any issues, despite using Edge with AdGuard extension. I don't have YT Premium, either, and the videos play normal regardless of whether I'm logged into my Gmail account or not.

There must be something I'm doing that y'all ain't considered.

FanboyNZ who does the EasyLIsts, Annoyances and others in uBO currently handles the ad and content blocking for Brave browser.

I'm seeing all kinds of alarmist posts on X/Twitter, with many saying to leave Chrome now and other silliness. Why? There are MV3 content blockers already there, plus MV3 is still far off on the horizon. Once Google starts in mid 2024, it still has to run thru the dev builds of Chrome before reaching the mainstream and who knows how long that'll take.

You also shouldn't confuse a Zero profile with an actual profile, either.

Fanboy does his own lists, and they're decent. But he's only a third-party that the bigger devs incorporate into their extensions as part of the offerings.

It's not really a big deal for someone to switch if they already know the company is doing something devious.
