Don't play with your food.
Not completely sure what you're saying. Are you saying there's a chance to infect other things because you get water on the meat and it can spread?
You have no idea what happened to the meat before it got to you - cooking meat will kill whatever bacteria and other organisms are on it, but it will not remove anything that was created by them prior to killing it, or other contaminants like debris or chemicals.
It should be washed before getting to you, but to be sure there is nothing wrong with washing it again.
Honestly, it's hard for me to believe because I'm just reading this information off from my class's textbook. Not saying you could be wrong. Just hard to believe which is right. It reminds me of this one time where I saw a random dental video that you're not actually suppose to rinse toothpaste off after brushing your teeth. People in the comments section were debating about it lol.
But this is all dependant on your local chain and production, although washing would offer no benefit to the internal contamination. Better off cooking it and using heat to destroy and potential bacteria.
