Is there a game where you have to solve a math problem?
I'm not looking for educational games. I don't know what I'm looking for at all. Are there any games out there that suddenly demand that the player solve a complicated math equation or puzzle as part of the story or a part of the adventure?

A rocket scientist suddenly having to solve a physics equation or a romance virtual novel where you actually have to solve the math homework you came over to help with. Anything. I have no idea what's out there. Anything where the math problem is considered secondary and not the primary reason for playing (so no edu-tainment math learning games).

Tux math, I got really far when in the computer lab one day, wayy farther than anyone else, but no one believed me.
left 4 dead
solve the equation of why your teammates are so braindead constantly
Portal 2

hmm idk if this count, maybe you should calculate velocity and cannon projectile to hit at point something like that

maybe because you're playing left 4 dead 1 instead of left 4 dead 2... :Kurisu:
Step 1. Play MMOs & get familiar
Step 2. Start making spreadsheets & calculating damage from different sets & skills
Step 3. Profit
Math is life. It's not just about number.

One of my favourite.

I do believe every type of game have Math. It's just each of us have our own preference.

You might want to give chess a try if you like solving problems, I know it's not math related, but I just thought I'd hint at chess, great game.

Oddly enough, RPGs and looter shooters sometimes require you to do math to determine basic stats for weapons.
Try stellaris and you can write your own little stories about the scientists and their (mis)adventures.

You can use math in space engineers, like calculating thruster power against gravity and ship mass to know for certain if your ship will fly or be capable of landing safely on a planet thats a higher gravity than where you built it.

And the calculations on parachutes and things can be rather complicated.

But you can also skip the math and just always wing it.
I never play Space Engineers any other way, lol. Eyeballin' it is much more fun imo.

As for OP, Baldi's Basics is the only thing I can think of, but it's a horror game and it's not on Steam, IIRC.
From the things I recall.

In Tomb Raider Anniversary there's a puzzle that can be solved via group theory.
In AC2 there were some alignment puzzles that were solvable via group theory and linear algebra.
None of it was necessary for solving the puzzles, but was pretty cool way of doing stuff instead trial and error.

No idea how it's today, but back in the day, in WoW you could apply some analysis and probability theory to optimize rotations.

Then there's Kerbal Space Program, in which you can do all the calculations on your own (might also be the proper way to play the game).

Shenzhen I/O

Some of missions are math missions.
don't know any with pure math involved, but you should try looking through this catalog...
