Is there a game where you have to solve a math problem?
I'm not looking for educational games. I don't know what I'm looking for at all. Are there any games out there that suddenly demand that the player solve a complicated math equation or puzzle as part of the story or a part of the adventure?

A rocket scientist suddenly having to solve a physics equation or a romance virtual novel where you actually have to solve the math homework you came over to help with. Anything. I have no idea what's out there. Anything where the math problem is considered secondary and not the primary reason for playing (so no edu-tainment math learning games).

No, I guarantee you there isn't.

You ever watch game shows? The question will be "In mathematics, this number is the sum of 3 and 4" and they'll guess 12.

"Complicated math" for 99% of people is literally like sixth grade.
This is why Number Muncher was big back in the 80's.

You can use math in space engineers, like calculating thruster power against gravity and ship mass to know for certain if your ship will fly or be capable of landing safely on a planet thats a higher gravity than where you built it.

And the calculations on parachutes and things can be rather complicated.

But you can also skip the math and just always wing it.
I played an indie game at some point that required algebra for 1 hacking minigame that you never encountered again that required you to solve an algebraic equation, it was a crpg i m blanking, it reminded me a lot of shadowrun which is why i bought it.
I'm no expert on kerbal space program but maybe math can come into play in it too. Its hard to really think up many games where math can really come into play, it just ain't adding up in my head.

Like the things I can think of are few, like perhaps an equation to know what your colony wealth will cause to spawn in a raid... in rimworld.

You can probably use math in games about automation like say hydroneer you could try to find out rates and things. Or in tech modded minecraft maybe math can help you pre-plan an area such as number of generators to put in...but its so much easier to wing it.

THAT'SSSSS MEEEEEEEE!

jk, don't play this game
I remember Terran Conflict plot mission forcing you to crack AI controlled ship once via code, then sudoku board, then not-very-hinted-at password. It was awful even with guide.

Edit. It was "New Home" plot mission, after Terran and Goner missions.

This one has intricate puzzles:

Quite a few puzzle games, and maybe some puzzles in adventure and RPG games, but nothing major.

Rather simple math, of course.

The average gamer is not interested in solving complicated algebraic equations lol.
cool math games . edu

Obligatory song is obligatory.

Unironically have this on my MP3 player because sometimes you want something that when taken out of context will worry people. Granted, I've got a lot of songs like that on there.

I'm pretty sure there's some puzzles like that in the 999 series.
Only game I can think off would be Zero escape the Nonary games that has lots of math puzzles awesome game.
the Zero Escape games
Resident Evil series.

Umbrella likes programming their lab equipment and security systems with old children's puzzles almost as much as they like themed keys and door inserts.
