Anyone here prefer to watch more realistic war movies
Just took the idea of making this thread from another thread. Anyway, I have reached a stage in life were I prefer to watch more realistic films over movies that are just unbelievable to a the point I will switch off.

Some examples of realistic movies im talking about are films such as 'saving private ryan', 'dunkirk', '1917', 'platoon', 'soldier sailor tinker spy', 'das boot', 'letters from Iwo jima', these type of films.

Clearly these movies like most are made up and there are many inaccurate scenes but in general they feel more real to me personally than say other war movies such as 'pearl harbor', 'U-571', 'Battle of the bulge' or 'behind enemy lines'. I can't even watch these films anymore because they just hurt my brain.

As for 80's macho man one man army films such as rambo or commando don't even deserve to be called war movies.

Also try - Enemy at the Gates.
Tora Tora Tora

Not really a war movie - Hell in the Pacific.
I appreciate both tbh.

Some that try to stay historically accurate as possible with tense moments of 5 min staged CGI fights

or

Some that play on the idea of historical events but their own twists. Like you mentioned saving private ryan the D day beach was over dramatized as well as other battles. But you can still enjoy the context behind it and the whole story of people dying for the idea of freedom and of course saving the last of a group of brothers.

probably the best one i've semi seen is the band of brothers in the history channel. A best of both worlds type of thing. They don't sugar coat it either.

I just prefer realistic movies in general.

Heck, I stopped caring about the Fast and Furious franchise once I realized it shared the same cinematic universe as the G.I. Joe movies. And those G.I. Joe movies are most definitely not "realistic" war movies.

Yeah but then they couldn't round up a bunch of King Tigers. Making imitations is cheating :P and they look bad anyway (that "Tiger" tank in "Kelly's Heroes"...:steamdeadpan:)

The most realistic war movie will be about drone strikes. People sitting in an office watching screens of drone strikes. That's war now.

All the other stuff, the drama, the tension, the soldiers running, explosions, all that stuff is just the aesthetics of war films.

Boots on the ground will never be obsolete. That's one of the rare ways in which war indeed never changes.

Yeah, I think the most we would see in the next 100 years is A.I for anti-air or spotting enemies (not shooting).
