why dont people who are trapped in a fire dont just run through it really fast?

Because you're thinking of your campfire experience. A housefire is hotter, bigger and more intense. The heat coming off it will feel like a physical wall and it won't feel like running through it is anything more than a very painful ticket to heaven. Just go talk to a firefighter when you have the chance or visit a large bonfire.

If you are in a fire, such as at a motel, and can't get out a window, your best chance is to soak a towel in water, put it over your head, and try to crawl out. Any breathable air will be down low on the floor, not up where your head is when standing. If the door is hot, do not open the door, or the fire will likely flash in onto you.

Oh man! You are a life saver! Someone should totally run straight into 600 degree flames and smoke. Cloths immediately catching fire, immediate 3rd degree burns, massive toxic fume inhalation, possible collapses, flaming debris and trip hazards!

Also, if you are on the fifth floor, you should jump out the window. The outside ground isn't on fire, so totally a great way to escape the fire!!!
