Troy Baker is EVERYWHERE
Am i the only person who finds that Troy Baker is in too many games? In big AAA titles he always plays the roll of the protagonist or the antagonist. Want the list? Here:

Arkham Knight in Arkham Knight
Two Face in Arkham Knight
Red Hood in Arkham Knight
Ocelot in MGS 5 and Ground Zeroes
A few characters in Mortal kombat X
Sam in Uncharted 4
Pagan Min in Far Cry 4
Jack Mitchell in CoD Advanced Warfare
Delsin in Infamous: Second Son
Joker in Arkham Origins
Joel in The Last of Us

Oh and FYI this was all in about 2 years.

Steve Blum is everywhere if you played Bioware games.

Troy Baker only picked up VO work after The Last of Us, that's what made him famous.

Steve Blum has been VO famous since Cowboy Bepop.

If you've ever played Star Wars: The Old Republic, Blum is literally everywhere, you can hear his voice every day, different role.

Depends on the game. If someone is talented they should get work, beign good at what you do should result in rewards in my opinion.

The gaming industry tends to hang on to good voice actors because so many games have questionable acting. And whenever a particular game and/or character is successful the voice actor is attributed to the success...and therefore, is used in other projects.
What if games tried the silent approach like many uber famous movies did?

You mean completely silent or no dialogue silent?

Cause if you just mean no dialogue...plenty of games already do that. Dark Souls for example...although not a good one as that does have some dialogue...just not a lot.

In terms of completely dialogue free? Sure it is totally possible. If the game depends on a story then they would have to animate the characters really well to convey emotion. That is all.

So DMC has bad voice acting but whenever you play one of the games I mentioned you're going "WOW THE VOICE ACTING IS AMAZING"

Just because the first game has one bad line it doesn't mean the other games have bad voice acting. I'm mainly talking about 3 and 4 where it was really entertaining to watch cutscenes with Dante in them.

Ugh....no. That was not good voice acting. Sorry. I know it is subjective opinion. It was due to the script as well as the voice acting. It was awful in both of those games.

Dante is an entertaining character...but not because he ever had great voice acting.

But if he had bad voice acting he wouldn't be entertaining. Or at least not be entertaining in the way many people like him.

He was in games before the Last of Us (Persona 4, Catherine, Arkham City).

Yep I know, but the keywords were "that's what made him famous."

He was relatively unknown before The Last of Us

Talented voice actors get work. Don't see what the problem is.

Yeah but when playing through any of these games I never thought "Wow this is amazing acting it must be Troy Baker"

Even when something is good when it's overused it just gets annoying. You can play your favourite game ever but it's never going to be as fun as the first time you played it.
I had more fun playing portal 2 the second time then i did the first time, mostly because i was not screaming in rage at the impossiblity of it all and just had fun looking the the cool enviroment.
Oh man, if only Nolan North, Steve Blum, and Troy were not as talented as they were.

He was entertaining because his voice acting was so bad it was good. Resident Evil is also renowned for its voice acting...and not because it is good.

Dante is a sarcastic, rock-loving, obnoxious, pizza-eating demon hunter who happens to be a total badass who got impaled to a wall in the first minute of the first DMC...and shook it off like it was nothing. Yea, he is cool. His voice acting is not, however.

People find him entertaining because like you said hes a sarcastic, rock-loving, obnoxious, pizza-eating demon hunter. If he had bad voice acting it would ruin why people are entertained by him. He would be entertaining the same way Zero is in that one scene from Megaman X4.

That game also didn't have what I would call grade A voice acting. Dante does have bad voice acting, but it isn't necessarily the fault of the voice actor (though he doesn't help) it is more due to the writing. But you have to have both to have great voice acting.

Look, people LOVE Ash from Evil Dead. Does that mean it was because of fantastic acting? No. Not at all.

Then what about Quinton Flynn (Raiden, Axel, Silver) and Alastair Duncan (Steven Armstrong). They were nominated for awards due to their performance in Metal Gear Rising. But they get no lead roles nowadays.

The problem is the only talented voice actor who keeps getting work is Troy Baker.
Laura Bailey is his female equivalent.
