Should i be feeling guilty for not enjoying school at all?
Some background: I'm gonna graduate high school in around 8 months. i'm currently in the 12th Grade, i changed schools after 10th grade ended (i LOATHED the previous school, this one's fine). Oh and a few small, but significant things i need to mention - i've been dealing with severe depression for the past 3 years, and i've never been bullied or actually been 'hounded' as they say by anyone in any of the two schools. In fact, i never even got into a physical fight yet.

Still. Despite lacking reasons to actually dislike school (bullying, fights) etc i hate school. I just hate going. It's not the studying, i do plenty of that in home and on my own time, efficiently even. I just do not know.

All around me people keep saying that the "world beyond high school" is much worse and honestly that gives me chills. Then there is also this whole brigade of "THESE R DA BEST YEARS OF UR LIFE!!" and i'm like..what?

As it is coming to an end soon, i can't help but feel almost...guilty. maybe i didn't force myself enough to enjoy it? Anyone with any similar experiences?

I'll admit, I have motivational problems studying, but my friends keep me in leash so it is more bearable, do you have friends that can keep you company while studying and in classes? Friends might make your days more enjoyable. And no you don't have to feel guilty, it is likely that a lot of people don't like school.

Yeah, I really loathed it too, until senior year I started enjoying it. Then I graduated, and wished I had been the same way I was all the 3 years before that.

I too have developed some serious motivational problems this year, i need to subdue them immediately.

Yeah my friends do keep me company in classes, it makes them some what bearable but this is gonna sound weird...MANY times i just want to be at home. As much as i like all the joking and stuff with my friends...i just want to be home. Not doing any particular activity, so its not some sort of addiction, i just don't want to be there.

this is quite weird cause in 10th Grade i was the topper, and last year i didn't too badly, i had to adjust with the new school and all. this year is VERY important and idk...i just feel lost about it.

And thank you for your last statement!
You're not required to like school. There could be a number of reasons why you're not enjoying it: The atmosphere, your classmates, maybe you're not being challenged enough or you could just not enjoy it. You shouldn't feel guilty for it.

As for people saying it's worse after high school, that depends if you're responsible or not. It could be, but if you make the right decisions, honestly, I've found life after school far easier than anything else. A little common sense and due diligence makes all the difference.
I am currently in College and can say it was a lot of stress in the last year of High School, but again, the only thing that kept me from wanting to go home was to not think to much about home and instead focus on school like I wasn't going home at all. I realize that might be hard to do, but it did work for me as I had similiar problem during my two first years of High School.
When people refer to their highschool years having been the best of their life it usually has little if anything to do with school itself. Its more to do with finally getting that taste of adulthood and adult privaleges while having no real responsibilities, bills, children, ect...

My highschool years were some of the best of my life because I had around 100 "aquaintances" that I could hitup and hangout with at anytime. There was always someone to go do something with. Back then I felt invincible and honestly its amazing I made it out alive and without a serious criminal record.

Things change drastically if you are actually responsible as you transition into adulthood although some "lucky" people never leave that highschool mentality.

I know i'm not supposed to ABSOLUTELY like it, but i can not pinpoint my reasons for actively disliking it so much either...

I see....thank you for your help :)

That's honestly very hard to do....but i really appreciate your help and it's nice to know someone else with similar experiences.

Oh! I never thought of it that way....thank you for highlighting that point.

The crux of the issue is that i feel like i' missing out on something that everyone is on. People are already getting heavy over the thoughts of leaving HS but i'm just like "YES. Finally."
Why should you feel guilty about not enjoying something? I hated school and all education in general.
You should feel horrible for not liking school

-crosses fingers behind back-
At least when you're in school, you don't have to work to have a house and food ^u^
well im only in year 10 so i guess my opinion probably wont mean much xd.
at the minute, i really dislike school.
it feels so dull, boring repetetive and extremely monotonous to the point of loosing attention or just going blank in class. the people are pretty badly behaved (i suppose i cant talk lol) but yea, im not really the majorly disruptive type but i guess most schools has a few people in their classes that does that but i dont really know if its to the scale in my class xd.

quite a lot of the teachers say im at least capable of an A* at GCSE if i put my mind to it, but i hate most of the subjects and whats included in them. i think about 60% of my teachers dislike me, about 10% do like me and the other 30% dont really care. my grades arent the worst, in the most recent tests i got mostly B, 1 A, and there were 2 subjects that we are told in our reports. as long as im slightly above average/just average i dont really care about it.
