"Illuminati" comes from the same Latin base as "illuminate," which means 'light up.' The Illuminati is a secret guild of (mostly) men (but a growing number of women), who change burnt out light bulbs.

Thats a start..... but there are many 'clubs' of greedy, rich pigs that try to gear systems and laws to suit themselves... they are your overloards though the sheeple refuse to believe this cause they all think they are stong, poweful individuals that can't be controlled when in fact that kinda of thinking makes it even easier to control us (the sheeple).

Legitimate answer. The Iluminati is those people that are operating the government from behind the shadows. I honestly believe they exist, but that's just me. I believe in a lot of weird stuff.

Real answer: old, rich liberals from 18th century Bavaria club together to discuss how to make things suck less for women and non-aristrocrats. They disbanded in less than 10 years and people today are trying to profit from them by calling themselves the successors to the organisation or to flog BS conspiracy theories to be swallowed by idiots.
