*All models can play PS1 games but I had a Slim at one point and it didn't work with ID4 despite it working on my PS2. I have an original one now and it works on it, so I'm guessing having a built-in PS2 works better than the emulation later models use.
**When it comes to PS2 compatibility there are 3 types of PS3 (the Slim and SS both count as the third type). There's the original which has a PS2 built in and works with more-or-less all games even if it's fully patched. Then there's the later models that only have some PS2 hardware and partially rely on emulation; Apparently they barely worked with PS2 games in the first place and were eventually patched not to work with them at all. Then there's the latest models that don't work with any PS2 games and never did.
NES - ok - Metroid, no F-Zero
SNES - great - 1 Metroid, 1 F-Zero
N64 - ok - No Metroid, 1 F-Zero
Cube - Insane - 2 Metroids, 1 F-Zero
Wii - ok - 2 Metroids and a collection, no F-Zero
Wii U - lol - No Metroid, no F-Zero
Switch - I dunno how well liked this is - 1 Metroid, no F-Zero
It even works for the handhelds
GB - ok - 1 Metroid, no F-Zero
GBA - GOAT - 2 Metroid, 2 F-Zero (3 in Japan)
DS - ok - 1 Metroid, no F-Zero
3DS - the only anomaly - good - No Metroid, no F-Zero
I meant PS3. I think those have them as well. IDK how significant they are for PS3, or if they fixed it for those as well?
How was the Cube "insane" ?
They sold Rareware like a cheap daughter, made Zelda über cartoony (yes, it looks aesthetic, but it's *not* the OoT remake everyone was hoping for), gave Mario that water pump gimmick, etc.
Cube was ok, but certainly not "insane" - if something was "insane" about it was the fact that it was dead last in sales and was losing 3rd party support left and right. (although it still got more games than the N64 in the end)
Also, NES was pure greatness, especially the Japanese version (FamiCom).
And Wii U had better games than the Wii, which was an overclocked Cube with a gimmick remote controller.
