only if it was not that expensive I'd agree ... but since it's a game forum we can't talk about the alternative and vile way of playing old games.

but seriously , I wish they had some kind of univeral and official console that could just have all of the Retro games released on it ... but that is daydreaming and won't happen.

Resolution of OG game consoles like PS2/Cube/Wii on a modern wide screen HD tv looks crappy and blurred. Traded in my last OG console the Wii for that very reason.

I'd go PS3/360 they don't look to bad on modern HD big screens. Still got series like Gears of War 1-3 & spin off JD is still a blast. Test Drive 1/2 like lots of OG games not on PC.

Games like L4D1/2 really struggle with frames on 360 console in split screen. Don't expect quality resolution and quality frame rates.
I got an original nes with a light gun with a duckhunt/mario game launch title.

the light gun works but only on crt however, tested it after I bought it.

I dont own a crt so it gathers dust with my other retro consoles I picked up.

You don't need a crtv to play duck hunt with your current supply. Come to the 21st century already

not to mention that a lot of the old tech was absolute garbage...

Anyone remember Atari 2600 cartridges and the crappy copper lead strips that were obsolescent from the go? Or later disc consoles with shoddy lasers/motors/doors?

If I can emulate it on my computer then I'm fine. Only nostalgic stuff like an upright Centipede arcade machine with trackball or older console joysticks/controllers would sway towards getting older systems.

And yes, I am The Cheapskate. In other *ahem* realms I am known as The Freeloader.
I wear those badges with honor.
If I can get things like official digital colletions of retro games I usually go for that , I have the Atari , genesis and most of the neo geo games I want to play on steam or other stores.

I think the best handheld console to get is an original DS Lite, because it has a DS cartridge slot and a Gameboy Advance slot. I've been playing Pokemon Sapphire and Pokemon Pearl on mine.

Had one but it broke when i wasn't home.
If you were a Nintendo fan at all in your adolescence, the GameCube is the best Nintendo home console IMO. Back then it wasn't super popular because it was competing with the PS2 and X-Box. But the GameCube had a very solid first party library, if not the best line of Nintendo games ever on a Nintendo home console. There are a lot of third-party titles on the system that are worth purchasing as well. The games are getting a little bit more expensive these days, but it is definitely worth getting.

Well until you could actually play these games on a Wii which mean more games ultimately.

Ps2 will probably be the first one since it has the most gems from all of them but i need one which can also play ps1 games.A ps3 which can play ps2 games would also be kinda neat but i skipped this era never had either a ps3 or 360 i only played on a 360 via a friend and i liked the console.I had an og xbox on the other hand
