UBI needs to happen before AI takes over jobs thats for sure.
I'm guessing UBI meaning, Universally Based Income? If it is, then yes I agree. As we know there is strong resistance against UBI, but as meaningful fair paying jobs become more scarce in the future, they will eventually have no choice but to seriously consider it.
Universal Basic Income yeah, the AI tech is gonna take away alot of jobs and then what will people do all day?
One that doesn't want a bunch of homeless hungry people rioting all over the place I imagine.
It has already been discussed & postured by many countries, but there is a lot of resistance & perhaps not necessary yet. But as Sarge an actual adult American? suggested in post #101 that machines, robots & AI will eventually take away millions of jobs that were traditionally human.
It has been happening for decades already, it just happens to be speeding up. Extremely high unemployment always leads to more hunger, more homelessness & more civil unrest.
But why is there resistance to the idea?
I think we all know why there is resistance to UBI & to be fair, I will say that free hand-outs with no need to be productive, is rarely good for society. However I do suspect that eventually, Capitalism will do things out of necessity for societies basic needs, instead of just sheer profit.
In general I think that people are more willing to work for their needs instead of their wants. It is this that may change the way economies function & pave the way for greater participation & willingness to contribute towards societies greater needs.
once you get too too big; like any other niche hobby, mainstream crowd ruins it.
good idea in theory
that's about it
even with a machine runned socialist regime it'll still end up terribly. Especially if people don't have enough motivation to do anything major worth wild to reap the rewards.
Sadly human nature. If you gotta bust your ass for a nice house car etc but the next house the person has it given to them then what is the point?
Screw socialism, screw communism. We as
People are too corrupt and jerkish to ever let it work. Honestly, with all the recent additions to the communism bodycount flag flying socialists should be put in watch lists
Yes, there is no way those in control will ever let their power be taken from them. Any & all attempts to change the Capitalist system will always be met with hard resistance. As we know, any sudden major change often comes with great pain & suffering for so many.
I think it is why the world seems to be more critical about things, slow change only builds upon old tradition. Many would suggest, that the only way to achieve real change is to replace the old with something entirely new, instead of just the same old minor adjustments along the edges.

Socialism does not work. And I just told you why. How many more dead people does it take for you to realize that
