"Tap twice to see inside." How stupid. First of all, just put a window in the front of the fridge. Why would you make it impossible to see normally?
Second of all, just open the fridge. Why would you tap twice when you can just open it? 70% of the time you're going to be getting something out of it anyway.
This new feature is absolute piss. It only exists to make the fridge more expensive. An 8 year old must've designed it.

As far as a window goes, depending on the materials and thickness, it might not insulate well enough.

A Raspberry Pi Nano and camera to monitor inside of the fridge would be a worthwhile DIY project. But I certainly wouldn't trust a company with LG's reputation for any network-connected devices.

Maybe it's a heavy fridge door. they maybe make it for many fridges. Commercial fridges for dines are big. to make margin profit.

The same LG models with the "Instaview" glass that you're describing have the same exact refrigerators available minus the glass panels for $200 cheaper per model. That's what I bought it and It's the best fridge I've had( link below to model) . Too bad you didn't do your research before buying so you could've saved yourself some money because yeah, it's a pretty worthless feature in my book.
