how would you describe "vanilla techno' without someone having any knowledge of the genre?
"kinda boring and not good anymore"?

I can play most of Acdc and Fleetwood mac's stuff on bass
It can get very hair-splitty the deeper you go but that's usually when it comes to microgenres or subgenres seperated by time periods. What we're talking here is basics of popular edm subgenres.
I wouldn't start by saying "normal is techno" that's for sure. I'd risk overwhelming them and start by posting the ishkur link like I did in my first post. But really it's not something that can be taught or explained and understood in one post, you need to take your time with it and live with it, put some effort in. What adjectives I would use to describe generic or run-of-the-mill techno holds no bearing on what genres are classified as. If I think something is boring then it's boring house, boring techno, boring dnb, boring psytrance, etc.
I just can't help but feel like you're trying to gatekeep it a bit... since you can't actually tell me a better definition of things.
Gatekeeping is kind of a lazy term that people use when they hit their own point of tapping out of the discussion. It's also a term used for people that don't want to share information, but I'm not doing that. I'm not saying who can and can't be a part of these genres, I'm just telling you your information isn't very accurate or helpful while providing a very good source that explains a lot of the differences with audio examples (the ishkur link)
So it's like do you want to learn the differences between subgenres, or do you want to call it all rave? Because if it's the former then prepare to be corrected when you use terms incorrectly but if it's the latter then it's no problem really but others may want to learn more about it and actually enjoy the hair-splitting and general nerding out about nuance in subgenres.
I don't know what you want me to define tbh. I've told you already that what I think of a track doesn't have any bearing on what genre it falls under. I'd rather keep it practical and say x dj plays y genre, or x producer makes y genre. Look at the ishkur link it's a cool resource.
is this the new "*****" and I don't know it yet?
I'm not putting any thought into the term at all, I just know what it means and explained it to you. You have no idea what gatekeeping is, nor do you have any idea about these genres. You're more concerned with pointless arguing than actually learning anything. Whatever dude, enjoy your techno rave.
