We are at a point, where it makes no difference if the tariffs are 100%, 140% or 9000%. Nobody is trading with 100% tariffs in place anyways. So this is just for show.

He was doing it to balance trade and eliminate trade barriers. Part of that is getting places to eliminate tariffs on us so the things we build here can actually be sold in other markets. And the 10 baseline tariffs on foreign imports still remains. We don't need then to be able to offer things at prices that undercut our own production.

This goes beyond just the US too, because other countries wanting to sell in the US market won't be building their factories in China anymore.

I'm wondering how many nations in the current and future negotiations to sell in the US market will toss in deals not favorable to China as part of their agreement strategy with the US. I'm sure that is part of the negotiations.
