What if they lie to us about the population and we're actually much fewer than they say?
What if population is set to, if it isn't already, plummet and not increase? For many reason, you don't have to go full mouse utopia to suppress birth rate just from overcrowding in artificial urban environments (economic centers) and other factors.

There used to be a guy at the other end of town who covered all his windows in billboard signs that he made himself. Websites, information etc. Then a couple of years ago, he had a big sign up that said "An attempt has been made on my life" and then a year later all the signs were gone and the house is empty. Someone else lives there now.

Worry not, the "leaders" of the "free world", are already devising and testing population control plans. Of course, they pass those as "measures for your own good". Some of them, were recently tested and lots of people participated in the experiment, willingly.
