It's probably a manufacturing defect. Xiaomi is a Chinese company so they probably make bargain bin phones and aren't well-known for their quality.

There are two statements here and both are wrong and came from an uneducated source.

For someone in a 1st world country, its amazing how you havent yet realised its an Infrared emitter. Infrared. fyi, is invisible light that is not visible to our eyes so no matter how close you jam your eyeball to it, you wont see a single speck of visible light
