Can you see it only on video or is it noticeable irl? Almost looks like an Infrared.

The microscopic organisms living in your phone have gained sentience and are begging for help.

I initially thought that it was a defect, but a lot of their phones have that in that same spot. It shouldn't be flickering or overly bright, but it's normal that it's there.

My guess is it's a small hole in the bezel and you're seeing the backlight of your screen.

It's probably a manufacturing defect. Xiaomi is a Chinese company so they probably make bargain bin phones and aren't well-known for their quality.

There are two statements here and both are wrong and came from an uneducated source.

Westerners generally believe that if they haven't heard of it, it's probably inferior. (because they think they are the center of the world)

Then it's a sensor. You can probably replicate this with a TV remove that works on IR.

You guys are nuts. There is no way they deliberately put a light that bright on the side of the phone facing the user. It's annoying and a distraction.

And yes China makes cheap crap. Get over it.

For someone in a 1st world country, its amazing how you havent yet realised its an Infrared emitter. Infrared. fyi, is invisible light that is not visible to our eyes so no matter how close you jam your eyeball to it, you wont see a single speck of visible light

Its not even an alien concept

Why on earth do you buy a phone for a camera?

Buy a camera for camera.
