Bootleg restaurants?
Since the United States only accounts for 6.1% of the world's total landmass, a lot of us are definitely gonna be born and raised in other countries. However, since we live in the age of the Internet, we'll inevitably hear about various restaurants that are only available in the United States. However, that won't discourage some businessmen or women from making their own cheap imitation of the food they wish they could have in their homeland.

What sort of restaurants fit this bill for you? I guess to start off the thread, I suppose I should mention the Canada-born Whataburger knockoff: What The Burger!

I've always thought "Carl's Junior" is a copy of "Burger King" (or "Hungry Jacks" where I am).

Then there's the lack of intellectual property laws in China: :marijaonlooker:

We all know about the various knockoff versions of American restaurants in China. Was more wonderin' if anyone here has lived to see a bootleg restaurant in person.

I've tried pitching an American version of Pollo Batman from Bolivia but the investors were afraid of legal issues because of the comics that stole the name from the chicken joint

I think a new fast food chain took over McDonald's in Russia. You also have "Southern Fried Chicken" in the UK which is a Kentucky Fried Chicken knockoff. Oh, and KFD in China is a KFC knockoff. Duffin Dagels in Spain = an expanded Dunkin Doughnuts.

Here's the thing, if other countries are copying our worst food, fast food chains, they aren't doing themselves a service health wise. Watch the documentary called Supersize Me.

There is actually a restaurant at my area that is just called “restaurant”. Not even joking.

So I just learned that we don't have Baskin Robbins in Canada. Wonder how a creatively bankrupt businessperson would fill that void
