Why are Bethesda games so broken? Do they even have a quality control system?
My guess is that all their games are spaghetti coded to oblivion (pun definitively intended). Fallout 3 is a absolute nightmare in terms of optimization for consoles. I still remember rebooting my pc many times when New Vegas crashes at the loading screen.

They're absolutely huge in scope and there are a lot of pieces that work together to make the game work. I doubt any single dev on Bethesda's team has read every line of code in the game. They probably have different departments working on different things.

I expect there are some fundamental engine problems, and rather spend years constantly correcting the issues, it is cheaper to just band-aid it when designing a new game. I wish I could say it was unique to Bethesda, but it is fairly common across the industry.

well, from the oblivion and skyrim dev video logs and such, for skyrim i think it was just a single guy sitting on a couch and they actually pulled him from a different project to bugtest.

ya they have a bad company philosophy on quality control, but hey.

it just works.

They are fine.

It's that relic of an engine they have been using since morrowind.

New Vegas was made by Obsidian Entertainment and not Bethesda.

Don't get me started on Bethesda.
Skyrim and Fallout 4 are masterpieces, but only with copious community patches.

They crapped on Doom and Quake's legacy with their 3rd party account nonsense and trying to steal id's noble legacy.

Even NewDoom is a boring shadow of Doom, with everything good about it ripped off from Project Brutality.

Its mostly due to how vast the games are, and especially how complicated The Creation Engine actually is.

The Creation Engine also isn't the most optimized on a game-by-game basis, hence why it doesn't handle everything the greatest.

Brutal doom was around before, Project Brutality so no

I mean if we ignore New Vegas, thats just Bethesda's motto "It Just Works"

You know its bad when they get their own well made song detailing their failure, they have quality control on a low standard but thats also the result of the GECK engine in general, I've toyed with that monster of game creation engine of theirs and I will outright say, that thing is more unstable then freaking Source is when you try to fix lighting.

I cant say their bad nor good, they run on their own game engine, the GECKkit and as such its a unholy mess of functions for anyone, someone just being new to the studio would have one hell of a first week learning how it just works without having it crash.

You know whats a bit worse with it is that the GECK literally uses what I call "The Game Engine with No Context", basically its literally a Navmesh "Clutter" system.

Note, the first instruction on Navmesh until Step 3 are telling you just how to color the floor.

Here's the steps on how to set up a key and a locked door that takes up half of another page.

The Code is to blame, not the devs, but whoever made the tool to start with needs to fix it!
engine issues

tbh the engine is a god horrid mess but it works when it does.

it worked up until 4. Then they tried 76 and making it work a lot harder with multiplayer to boot. And welp yeah.

They really should patch the engine before making a new game. Each game making them less and less buggy laggy and crash prone.

Climbing works the same in Daggerfall as it does in Skyrim. Daggerfall just let you worm your way up things besides mountains.

There’s something charming about using the same broken engine for 30 years.

I mean Fallout 76 is literally just a reskinned Fallout 4 with its UI heavily changed, not much else was actually changed, as things even in there are literally from Fallout 4, less we forget the Gas canisters in Fallout 74 that are everywhere, you only find in a lab in Boston if you look hard enough for it

You what whats worse? The Scorchbeast queen? Its literally just a reskinned Dragon from skyrim.
