* Starbound (which I haven't played but have heard is something like this)
* Terraria (more exploration, though only on one planet)
* Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet (explore a couple planets, though not free travel)
* Super Mario Galaxy?
I've also played some larger metroidvanias that have something like this sort of feel. For example, An Untitled Story.
Maybe Kerbal Space Progam if you havent tried it. Its good fun, though again.. maybe not exactly what you are wanting.

I enjoyed the game, but it was a little bit short. But if your'e a fan of space exploration games, you will propably like shorter games too. Its medium-long, it has a playtime of roughtly 4-5 hours nonstop.
Not high-def 3D first-person exploration type of thing, but still. Very gratifyingly atmospheric.
