Good space/planet exploration games?
Is there any good space/planet exploration games that anyone knows about? Im not looking for anything else, Im solely looking for a first person or third person view space exploration game, where you can freely explore planets and planet systems. And yes, I know of No man's sky, but It won't be coming out for a while. is there any other games of the same genre that I can play?

Yes,Im am looking for an open world, but ESO takes place on one planet. I want to be able to freely travel to moons and planets with a spaceship.

oh well i dont know how to help you there but if you ever get ESO send me a friend reqest ill play with you
Suggestions:
* Starbound (which I haven't played but have heard is something like this)
* Terraria (more exploration, though only on one planet)
* Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet (explore a couple planets, though not free travel)
* Super Mario Galaxy?
I've also played some larger metroidvanias that have something like this sort of feel. For example, An Untitled Story.

You can freely explore a few different planets in games like KOTOR or Mass Effect but I don't think that is exactly what you are looking for. Games like that haven't really been possible until just recently. It is kind of a new thing.

I'm eyeballing Farlight Explorers, though its hard to say if thats really what you are looking for. I'll edit my post if i think of any others though. No Mans Sky does look interesting, I have somewhat high hopes for it.

Maybe Kerbal Space Progam if you havent tried it. Its good fun, though again.. maybe not exactly what you are wanting.

Farlight explorers looks cool, I'll follow it as well. I do have a game of the same genre called Empyrion, but it only has 3 planets and it isn't that big of a game yet. Though the devs promise it will become bigger in the future. Again as supertrooper said, its a genre that's still somewhat developing, so there isn't that many games yet.

Lifeless Planet?

I enjoyed the game, but it was a little bit short. But if your'e a fan of space exploration games, you will propably like shorter games too. Its medium-long, it has a playtime of roughtly 4-5 hours nonstop.

Oh, Saira involves exploring strange planets. And you can't go wrong with it because it's free.

Not high-def 3D first-person exploration type of thing, but still. Very gratifyingly atmospheric.
