What About Female Gamers!?

I'm really curious to know what is up with people disliking female gamers. I keep seeing people wondering if there are any real ones out there, but yet as a real authentic gamer I only get hated on and (very funny when this happens) discredited by my lack of lore knowledge (because for some odd reason I should know everything about everygame ever invented to be a true gamer). Not many want to acknowledge me for my modding skills and even less as an entertaining let's player (yes entertainment taste can vary). Just curious as what is the real deal? Is there something I'm not aware of? Is it simply a male dominated environment with no true place for girls? I really want to know your thoughts on this matter good or bad.

From my point of view...a lot of them just want attention. It works too, at least I've noticed so far on my short time here on Steam. Yesterday I joined, and I made a post introducing myself. I got very few replies. However, I noticed a post with a girl name and an avatar of a picture of a girl (I kind of had my doubts if that was really a girl, or just a guy pretending to be one...) and it got a bunch more replies and they probably got sent a lot of friend requests.

Also, there's lots and lots of female streamers who like to show off their cleavage to attract horny 13 year old viewers, and get donations. It's grating. Same with YouTubers. I think this is the kind of thing that leads to a bad reputation.

Are you a gamer who happens to be a girl or are you a girl gamer?

The difference is that gamers who happen to be girls are, well, just that. Gamers. Girl gamers, on the other hand, are girls that seek attention because they are girls who happen to be interested in video games. There are plenty of the former, but unfortunately there are also plenty of the latter. Many people automatically assume that the former are the latter, so you get hate.

and yet I am none of those but still get the hate... So because a few rotten apples (yes it's only a very few who get A LOT of attention thanks to horny kids) we all get the trash treatment? Oh and FYI lots of boys like making girl account to hit on other guys don't believe them all to be girls especially if she seems very horny...

With the sheer number of female gamers, I am willing to be it is only those vocal bad examples that are what people deal with. Play a few games with women gamers in general, and you will notice how quiet they stay. Becaus ethe instant they talk, if they aren't working the room hard as a flirty show off, the ammount of ♥♥♥♥ they get is frigging unbelieveable.

This comes from first hand experience with my wife, how was a very active gamer. But, despite mic set up, never talked in game unless I was also there. Because of the BS the average male gamer, while normally very meh in voice chat, would suddenly turn into the worlds biggest POS.

I used to think it was because in FPS games, the agressive male ego tends to pop out, but after all these years, I just think that it is male gamers are just children when it comes to dealing with women in a game play situation. Almost like they revert to ten year olds, verbally pushing a girl over because they don't know how to respond.

There was a study in a prestigious journal a few months back. It turns out boys who play videogames actually have the most valuable resource on earth: nerd attention. As a result, girls try to steal this 'nerd gold' (as it were) which is astonishingly effective largely because boys are incapable of voluntary action. As a result, the worldwide supply of attention is vanishing and soon economies will collapse without sufficient nerd attention to back their currencies.

In case you haven't noticed, people really like to generalize. So yes, because of a few bad apples you will indeed get bunched with them all and receive that kind of treatment.

And yes, I'm aware of people doing that.
