Only immature children could possibly dislike a female gamer. The rest simply doesn't care..
I mean why would you care what gender another person is, outside of trying to find a mate.
Without going into details I can say this is not the treatment I got and still am getting to this day. My status still remains inferior even after proving myself countless times. Plus I am still spoken to like I had an IQ of a 2 year old. Some even refuse to acknowledge my existance even though they clearly know who I am. I understand his post (and had a good laugh) as I specialize in games I love and don't realy care about those I don't... so does that not make me a gamer because I don't know about them all?
Not another stupid thread about female gamers getting disliked.
It's always going to end up in a flamewar and such.
Because certainly a bunch of 14 year old that don't know better and sent these threats, much like sending swat teams to peoples houses are a representative stance of the whole gaming community.
*roll eyes* Condemn the whole group over the actions of a minority, why don't you?
You can be a fan, but you're being entitled if you expect others to automatically welcome you into their group.
Men aren't exempt from this treatment, you clearly haven't been in enough social situations to recognize the 'quizing' that takes place, if people think you're a newbie.
"fake gamer guys"
The problem with this is that you're adding ina gender to the situation, as if it makes a real difference. I notice girls are quick to call themselves 'gamer girls', but men just call themselves 'gamers'. This addition of gender is to try and stand out from everyone else. And gives you a quick excuse to say "You're sexist!" instead of even considering the fact that you're the one who's shown yourself to be under par for the group's expectations.
Look around you every time you see a girl who plays games, whenever she calls herself a "gamer girl" she's showing that she wants to be different from just being a "gamer", this person themself creates the gap that expands into being called "not a real gamer".
Basically seperating yourself from other people, and being mad when they seperate you from them.
You just said that "you don't know about games at all", this is obviously the source of divide.
If you use a mic, remember that men are constantly insulted if they don't have a good voice. So it might not be your gender they're insulting.
If you don't know about gaming, don't call yourself a gamer.
I'm not speaking with any malice. I'm simply stating that you must conform to groups, and not expect them to capitulate for your sake.
They don't experience it to the same degree that... well, heck, read this thread. Notice all the posts about how women just want attention?
Yeah, it's almost as if 'gaming culture' is more welcoming of men. As if 'gamers' are assumed to be boys.
Let's assume this is true. Half the population is male. Why don't guys say they're 'gamer guys' to stand out? We'd expect at least some of them would say something like this to stand out. Unless you also assume that all gamers are male anyway.
No, she didn't. Read again.
The whole notion of gaming being to any extent a place where girls/women "shouldn't" be is a load of crap that should die in a fire. If any guy thinks that gaming should stay a "guy" thing and gives you crap for being female and playing a game, then he's an immature idiot who can't focus on gaming.
And besides, I would venture to guess that the kinds of places where you'd get guys giving girls crap for playing their games are the same places where the guys probably maintain a pretty toxic environment for themselves too -- things like being excessively competitive and uptight and unfriendly to newbies.
You know what group, you're just trying to avoid the statement. You seem to catch on later in your post.
So you're saying you've never heard a man be called a "noob" or insulted at all before? Not once you've seen a man called an idiot if he doesn't know something?
'gaming culture' is just a collective. Had so many feminists not tried to inject gender into gaming, there wouldn't be as big of a deal. And yes most gamers are assumed to be boys. That's why adding in the "gamer girl" thing is a situation of trying to bend the collective to fit around you. Instead of simply calling yourself a gamer.
Because 'gamers' are stereotyped as men. The same reason girls try to add in gender to stand out as a "gamer girl" proves that being a 'gamer' is stereotyped as being a man. The fact that only Women point out their gender, proves this stereotype.
And if I assumed all gamers were male, I'd just assume this thread were a joke.
You must assume that all gamers are obsessed with gender anyways.
I'm done responding, it's clear you're either a troll, or a bigot.

i know a girl who never calls herself a "girl gamer" because there is no need to [/quote]
Great!
That proves the point that everyone can be a gamer. But you shouldn't try to change what being a gamer means. You're segregating others by calling yourself a "girl gamer". You're embracing equality by just being a "gamer".
This will be like if I said "I'm a Democrat Girl" while registering to vote. It's not sexist to not segregate different genders. If you do call yourself something silly like that, you are in fact the sexist one.
It sounds like you have a great friend. :D
Why on earth would you think that? Seriously. How did you get to there?
Ok, so you've acknowledged that gamers are assumed to be boys. Let's take a step back. Before you were saying that women are not treated differently from men, and that men get quizzed just as much as women. How do you reconcile this equal treatment with the assumption of gamers being default male?
It also proves that men and women who play games are not treated equally.
k bye
ps no ur the bigot!!!1
You yourself have acknowledged that a woman who doesn't hide their gender will be assumed to be a man, and yet you're simultaneously attacking women who dare to point out that they're women. You are actively helping to reinforce a no-win situation for women in gaming.
And why? What do we even get out of your way of doing things? I guess not accepting anyone who defines themselves by any other attribute than their game-playing habits (crazy, right?) is a certain mental convenience. I don't think it's particularly healthy though; strikes me as more like putting your head in the sand than standing up for equality. The last thing the gaming community needs is to encourage itself to be even more insular.
