GREATEST HORROR GAME?

Thanks for stopping bye, I'd like some opinions for your favorite scariest gaming! So what are your favorite, I'm thinking Outlast, how about you?

It's all just opinion based, and I don't consider any horror game to be the "greatest" Although there are good ones

It isn't necessarily the scares either. Good horror games provide interesting scenarios and dark themes or mysteries that are interesting to piece together. I don't get scared by video games, but I love horror games simply because of their specific atmosphere. I just find that kind of scenario more interesting than your typical "one guy takes on a couple of hundred terrorists" action movie scenario.

Blood Siren was kinda scary for me. It was on ps3 though and I only played the demo. Most horror games I played only had jump scares. Also fatal frame, never played it before only watched reviews, seems freaky.

normally i dont take pock shots but how is resident evil and dead space scary its so easy to avoid or shoot things you dont like, anytime the game could have scared me i just looke dat my gun boom not scared cause anything thats a threat shoot the legs, and knive/ tele them to death.

other then that i found call of cthulu not being scary but having a brillant atmosphere and you can shoot what you dont like which is nice

(ah i remember condemed, it had me jumping a few times but i didnt find it scary)

The tension in those games comes from resource management and making smart decisions while under pressure. I fine defenseless games very binary...hide or die. Run or die. Boo! Jump scare! They are one trick ponies in my opinion.

I don't get scared by any game. But I love the tension brought on by a well made survival horror game like the older Resident Evil titles. They have something that most defenseless titles don't....gameplay. I also find defenseless titles don't really have a lot of replay value. It feels like I am playing a movie...so to speak. The one game I will give a lot of credit to is Alien Isolation. It managed to walk a fine line and cater to both of those sensibilities.

Resident Evil's 4 5 and 6 aren't very scary. 4 did have a nice horror tone, but it still leaned a little too much towards action and the main character was a bit overpowered. The older Resident Evil titles made you vulnerable. While 4 still had that aspect in some ways....the sense of vulnerability started to wane with it.

Alien: Isolation. Alien A.I. was great, I remember a moment when an Alien delayed moving out of the room for a second before going out and when I go to the terminal in the back of the room, it jumps out of a nearby vent, it was genuinely creepy. That and Amnesia are the only horror games I've played but it's great.
