Is 59.99 the new general standard for new games today on steam and everwhwere else?
Everytime I see a new game for 59.99 on steam I laugh. I fall down laughing when they want 80 for a new game with extras,

are consoles games 60 now? it's been years since I bought a console game and they were never EVER over 49.99.

so 60 is standard now? people will actually pay it? Just curious, thanks.

$59.99 has been the standard for console games since around 2006. Yes, it is the standard. Considering how unstable the economy has been...it is a miracle they haven't gone higher.

And yes, people have been paying it for a decade. They have been paying it for a couple of years now for PC too. $50 games have been going out of the window for some time now.

are you new to gaming? When i started gaming in 2003 the 60€ where standard
It's been years since you bought a console game.

It's not surprising that things have become more expensive.

There may or may not be a fancy word for that phenomenon. :DEALWITHIT:

I've paid close to $380 on Star Wars; The Old REpublic alone. It's a subscription MMO. There are people who've spent thousands on free2play cash shop games. I'm not such a person.

One mobile game I played, there was a rumor that a guild leader spent 400,000 dollars equipping his guild with gold alliance gifts and misc ingame swag; he was a software owner. Crazy stuff

Yes, $59.99 is the standard now. You know why?

Triple-A game development is stupidly expensive nowadays. Making hyper-realistic graphics takes an insane amount of money for what overall ends up being diminishing returns.
In 1993 it was $40 USD, so add 22 years of inflation and see what you get.

Games should cost $80 now, be thankful they don't.
i got my first home computer PC back in 1985 a ATARI ST 520, new games for it wer $50. atari, IBM, microsoft, games for them on the store shelfs, have always been 40 to 60 $$$. games did not really get 5 dollar cheep untill they went down loadable from on-line stores like steam.

This is true but you also have to factor inflation. Cumulative rate of inflation since games retailed for $39.99 has been about 35% in the US and higher elsewhere. That's most of the increase in one fell swoop.

That's also true, but according to TabrisDarkPeace games should actually be $80. I suppose Triple-A development costing so much is why it takes a hell of a lot more $60 copies sold to make a profit rather than why games are $60.
I think $50-60 is a good price for consoles. Definitely not PC
Many AAA console games in Australia cost $80 to $115.

Same game on PC with better graphics costs $60 or so.
Well thats just it games are $60 and then they try and sell you a subscription for $40+. So if you want the full game your talking about $100+ for the game. And there are a ton of people that buy the subscriptions.
I wasn't referring to subscription games as in Australia there aren't any.

Games have to be sold at cost and free to keep playing in Oz. ;-)
I saw an ad for a quater pounder for $3.99, and started laughing. Are people really charging $4 for one, and $5 for one with all the fixin's? It's been a long time since I bought one, but they were never EVER more than $.99. Is $4 standard now? People really pay that?

It's probably inflation doing its thing.
