Comic Fans: Why Do Superheroes Remain Single?
I would imagine that it would help comic writers find more material if superheroes lives were a bit more complex than just simply fighting crime?

Not all Superheroes remain single, though it seems that the amjority that have relationships are either with other superheroes or attempt to keep their super identity secret.

I imagine the reasons for this could be:

a) It's impractical and unnecessary stress on a relationship to continually go off fighting crime etc. Most partners eventually want smoe attention themselves, and the old "orry, I know it's our anniversary but work called, I gotta save the world honey." only goes so far

b) Often the Superheroes maintain an alter ego for their everyday life. This would be too strained in a relationship and there would be a risk of serious problems if there was a breakup and the hero's secrets revealed

c) Superhero fantasies are fuelled by the morality of good versus evil, action and specific motifs. Whilst family values are admirable, I donät believe comic book soap operas are intended. (Though they may exist in Japan, and definitely women's magazines)

d) Sex or reproduction may be problematic. Transforming into the Hulk mid-coitus may be extremely traumatic for a lady. A zygote formed from gametes from a parent bitten by radioactice spiders or worse could be prone to seriously damaging mutation.

e) Masturbation with superpowers.

I can certainly understand this. I play as a superhero in GTA San Andreas and I get sick and tired of my GTA in game girlfriend calling me and telling me she wants to hang out when there are gangsters shooting at me. They never call at the right time.

Are... are you actually.. I .. what.. You .... ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Lets look at some comic book relationships, damn it.

Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy
Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson (Married)
Superman and Lois Lane (Married)
Cyclops and Phoenix (married, twice)
Madelyne Pryor and Cyclops (Married)
Havok and Polaris
Wolverine and Mariko
Wolverine and Silverfox
Antman and Wasp
Vision and Scarlet Witch
Cable and Domino (You shut up)
Deadpool and Theresa Cassidy

And that was my warm up, off the top of my head. And it shows heros do that think you say they don't, and shows you why a lot of them avoid it.

Could be because most of the writers whom write superheroe storys are also single? Also the majority of the comic buyers being young childen upwards to young men probably just want to read action related comic events and see action sequences, not stories about mundane relationship events such as the superheroe being lambasted by his girlfriend/wife for not tidying up etc.

Lets also be honest here, not many women would really date a superheroe for long. Most of the time they are off fighting crime in the night and not sharing time with their partner which would result in jealousy and being accused of cheating/having an affair. Also having childen and a family would become a nightmare for a superheroe.

Because a lot of comic writers don't know how to write women.

Maybe the writers think having drama around love and finding love will interest people. Personally I think it gets old when they have to invent ways for someone to stay single for too long.
because if the villains know the hero's real family (wife and kids), the villains will attack them.
this is the main reason why most superheroes have secret identities

idk though why some superheroes share their secrets (team flash, team arrow)

You're a superhero. When you can fly and your partner can't, do you really want to have to carry them around on your back all day? That gets tiring. Finding a partner who can fly without a plane like you can is complicated...and somewhat idealistic I suppose.

I can't find any that aren't. They're all with 8/10 chicks from Hollywood last time I checked.
