I cherish it because I do believe it's actually lucky, and because I haven't heard from her ever since the riots over there started. The last thing she told me is that her brother was arrested, and then she just, disappeared overnight.

A charm need not be physical. Considering the purpose of a charm is to attract, it need merely be designed to do so. Much like how a talisman is made to ward. As to answer your question, yes and no.

Oh? I made some on my brother's side walk years ago with black nailpolish I believe it was. He tried painting over it to no avail. This year I think he resorted to sandblast.

A shame my sigils didn't mean anything. They were just random.

I don't consider it a good luck charm but I did carve/make a pentagram necklace myself, years back. Still got it.

You wouldn't need trying at all. Anyone that wants to leave is free to leave anytime they want. Unless you did something like the guy that stabbed a cop during a protest a year ago. He was caught on a UK-bound plane a the airport on that same night. He almost got out but someone from his family tipped the police.
