Gina Carano will no longer be in the Mandalorian. I will not share the details due to Steam rules, but look up the tweet that resulted in her termination.
This is just WRONG. It's not because the character is necessarily indispensable, but because of their reasons for taking her off. Disney has gone too far this time.

There's always a group of people reacting badly when a celebrity tweets something so off-putting, so tone-deaf, that their real life suffers as a result.

These reactionaries decry an abuse of 'censorship' or 'free speech' or some hybrid hodgepodge notion of the two, and immediately take to social media to cancel the "cancelling."

One would think that those rallying around the idea of "total" free speech would respect the company's speech to "practice what they preach" and effect real life change -- namely, by removing an obnoxious person.

Apparently, these reactionaries believe that "at the end of the day" offensive tweets are nothing more than words, and words are nothing more than ... words? Yet they defend that "nothingness" of words as though their words should matter. Highly perplexing.

The reactionaries also forget, in their infinite wisdom, that celebrities work in the ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY which is about "entertaining" and not offending people with their piddling opinions.

Except this wasn't tone deaf.

Because history is edited, most people today don't realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views

That's the tweet that ended her career. She's essentially saying Bigotry is bad. And Hollywood's response? Bigotry is good!

Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.

She wasn't denigrating anyone based on their cultural or religious identities. She was simply saying this is what leads people to do bad stuff in the past, and it could go that way in the future.

People should be pointing out that they were sexist for firing a woman for speaking her mind. Or possibly antisemitic because we all know Disneys early roots does have Nazi links.

The goal of that movement is to make company so afraid to be political that they stay out of politics and just worry about making money.

Steam did that, and I'm very proud of them as a company for doing it. Black Lives Matters had a few developers that tried to get Steam to endorse their movement, they wouldn't, and those developers pulled their crappy games. Steam remained non-political.
