What's Touhou?
I don't know much from the game other than the fact that it's an anime bullet hell. I was wondering a few things about it that I couldn't really find any answers for.

1. Is it a difficult bullet hell, or a casual one?

2. Is it multiplayer? Not like it matters, but just wondering since most bullet hell games I play usually have co-op.

3. Is it free? If not, where can I buy it?

4. Is it english? I heard it was japanese only, but don't know for sure.

5. Is the story good? I'm not expecting Undertale quality, or To the Moon, but something to atleast get interested in.

6. Is the music as good as they say?

7. Is it long? I don't want to buy (if you have to buy that is) a short bullet hell game, since bullet hells don't often have much replayabilty other than trying to get a perfect.

8. Is it cringey? I say this because a lot of anime games I have been playing recently are extremely cringe worthy and hard to play through imo.

Thanks in advance!

1. It's an extremely difficult Bullet Hell (and fighting game), yeah. I've been practicing for months and can still just barely beat Embodiment of Scarlet Devil on normal.

2. No, there are a few that have an MP mode, mainly the fighting game.

3. Not legally, you can download it from various places for free, which is what most people do.

4. It's JP only but there's English translation patches which can be installed.

5. Eh, this depends. I personally find it enjoyable, there's a fair bit of story.

6. Definitely. It's what sets it apart from other bullet hells (aside from the extreme difficulty) and is what got most people into it. The music really is fantastic. Septette for the Dead Princess is my personal favorite, and what got me into it.

7. It's fairly long as far as bullet hells go. The difficulty makes it much longer too.

8. Define cringey. Touhou's definitely the largest fandom for anything Japanese, as far as games go. There's innumerable art located across the web.

Well...
  1. Casual and Bullet Hell aren't really terms I'd use in the same sentece, but Touhou is definitley on the easier side of the genre.
  2. Nope.
  3. You have to pay money to get it, and some more money to import it.
  4. English patches do exist. You can also find translations on the Touhou Wiki.
  5. There's more of a plot in later games, but most of the stories can be summed up as "Something weird happens, you go and investigate."
  6. YES. This is before you include everything the fandom's made though.
  7. There's 7 levels if you include the bonus stage.
  8. Define "cringey."

For 3 neither of you gave me solid answer as where to buy it, and I defind cringey in this case as bad storyline / dialogue (kinda like Life is Strange's dialogue).

Thanks for the other answers though!
Something to do with little anime girls. Not treally into that trash ♥♥♥♥.

People will say, no its a bullet hell game with good music. Yes, but the selling factor are the anime girls.

Bullet hells I like, but don't really care for the characters.

1. It varies, some games are easy (By bullet hell standards) others (UFO and LoLK) are far harder.
2. The fighting Spin off games are all Multiplayer, and Touhou 3 and 9 are also multiplayer.
3. You can purchase physical copies of the games from Jlist and Touhou 14 can be bought digitally at Playism
4. Its all japanese but all the games have english fanmade patchs
5. It can be confusing at times but otherwise the story is very good. If you enjoy the story theres also an offical manga and countless fan works.
6. Yes
7. Usally 6 main levels plus a extra stage, some of the games have more. In some games the stages actually change based on the character you choose so there is some replay value.
8. Not really, sometimes theres a bad joke which can be a little cringy but otherwise its fine, the same can be said about the fanbase
⑨. Overused Touhou meme
An OCD simulator. But it has pretty good music and a lot of community.

Never played the games and seen very little, but from what I have seen I never got any impression of sexualization or anything from the games or the characters, unlike other Japanese games I could think of.

Relax, nothing controversial about the actual Touhou games. People behind the fan art and doujins however tend to let their imagination run wild.

The closent thing to sexual in the cannon is a few character without a flat or flatish chest, a couple characters with partings in their clothes (Armpits for example) and a joke made by Sanae, the fanbase on the other hand.... Lets not talk about that.

Edit (Changed one character to a few, just remembered Yuugi)
