Three Round Burst
Is there any shooter out there where a burst fire mode is actually useful? I feel like most guns that have a three round burst fire mode in games just have it out of formality, because "the gun has it in real life, so we need to have it in our game as well". The game is rarely built and/or balanced around using burst fire mode, and its inclusion often feels like an afterthought. It's oftentimes better to just set the gun to full auto and control the spray yourself.

CSGO is even worse. It just slaps on three round burst on weapons that don't have it IRL, and gameplay wise it's SIGNIFICANTLY worse than firing full auto.

Note that I don't have an issue with the mechanic itself. Burst fire itself can be great fun when balanced properly, and some of my favourite weapons in games are weapons that can only burst fire. The SCAR in Left 4 Dead 2 and the M16A4 in Insurgency come to mind.

DAHL weapons in Borderlands 3 have toggle-option burst mode. It's a great option.

The SCAR in L4D2 is a great gun for dealing with special infected at range.

3 round burst IRL is done because the recoil makes it too hard to aim after a few shots.

Which, I mean, in a video game you just find ammo everywhere and there's not a whole lot you have much reason to not shoot.

burst is just as bad IRL as well
the military created it during vietnam to force grunts to save ammo

The Burst Rifle in "The Last of Us" is actually the best type of weapon you can use since headshots matter so much.

You have 100 Health in that game and 1 bullet from a Burst Rifle does 20 damage and a headshot does 60 damage. So if you aim at the chest the recoil will push the gun up for you to score a headshot resulting in a 1 burst down.

If you're close enough to enemies in FEAR2, burst is great if you can aim for their chest. The recoil will usually make the 3rd shot hit their heads.
It's great for quick moments where you don't have enough time to aim correctly.

The only time we used 3rb in combat was for suppressive fire or to just scare. It is unreliable and pointless as we were able to squeeze off successive rounds on target. Fully automatic wouldn't be useful outside of cqb for small caliber anyway. Heavy is another story!!

Yeah. Its underrated weapon. Accuracy is higher than M16 and its moving accuracy is lower. Dps iirc is slightly higher than M16 too. Only bad side is longer reload time.

The SCAR in Left 4 Dead 2 is great. As I mentioned before, some of my favourite weapons in games are ones that can only burst fire. The Hemlok in Apex, the SCAR in Left 4 Dead 2, the M16A4 in Insurgency. My issue is just outside of these examples, burst fire just feels like an afterthought, put in just because "the weapon can do this in real life!"

In Doom Project Brutality v3, burst fire is an option for the pistol, and a pretty useful option several commits back, but in the current release versions, the muzzle rise is too much.

Beating Resident Evil 4 normal difficulty unlocks the Matilda pistol, but I never bothered with it and stuck to the fully upgraded Red9.

Seems like default hangun is not too bad either in that game. 5x critical chance is not too bad, and seems to work fairly frequently.

But i believe all players go with Blacktail or Red9. I believe Blacktail is better gun, because its faster to shoot and to aim, good dmg per shot but dps is higher, and has 35 mag size. Still, i never felt like waiting for Blacktail go be sold and went with red9.

mostly zombie games

3 burst takedowns

in literally everything else it's pretty bad.

3 burst is the worst of both auto and semi auto fire modes

auto mode=wastes too many bullets and harder to control
semi auto=not fast enough / enough dps in terms of using bullets.

The real question should be Why is full auto a thing IRL?

Maybe it's cheaper to manufacture and design.

Selective fire all has a purpose. Semi-auto is for accuracy. Burst is for putting rounds in a moving target. Auto is simple for suppressive fire. That's why the big boys still don't have fire selection. They are sort of area denial. Especially during retreating actions where the pig is at the rear to spray covering.
