PSA: Don't give your bank card to the waiter
I've been trying to tell my friends this for years, and they think I'm paranoid. But now one has had his bank account wiped after he used in DEBIT card at a restaurant.

Guys, never give your card out. If you can't scan it and punch it in yourself, use cash.

I completely misread the waiter thing, I thought how did he know?

Well I mean that waiter must be kinda dumb, how does he think he won't be caught?

You should always be able to see your card if the employee brings the card machine to you. Ideally use the machine at a fixed counter top to pay for your meal and do not give the card to anyone. :okey:

But what if he's cute and he promises that he will absolutely totally god's honest truth pay you back this time he just needs to cover his rent dealer and gambling debts. After all, he did sneak you that extra meatball and free breadsticks, right?

They collect card numbers and then sell them. In this case, my friend started having charges on his card of a few dollars at a time going to:

ITUNES.COM/BILL,866-712-7753,CA

Google that and you'll see just how big this scam is.

Edit: It's just disguised as Itunes, it ain't really.

And the police don't even bother to shut them down and jail them? Wow...

Yeah like they have a huge ass spreadsheet of compromised credentials. That's why I always fiddle around with the ATM machine to check for skimmers, but you do run the risk of coming out as being suspicious yourself.

Report the charges, issue a chargeback and request new card

Apparently it's a thing right now with the staff shortage to quickly get a job using false credentials as a waiter/waitress, grab some card numbers and then disappear.

Profit.

Yeah we're gathering, notating, and adding up all the charges RN. They want that done when you call them.

Wait, did they give the passcode to the waiter as well?

A lot of places don't need PIN numbers. McDonald's Drive-Thru, for instance. Ironically, the PIN is only necessary when the customer himself scans the card.

That's a step in the right direction honestly when you're paranoid, just means you are more likely to take precautions over your property and data where others aren't going to.

Ofc that sound retarded to do.
