[RETRO RPGs] Willow was the best RPG on the Nes.
Secret Retro 8-bit and 16-bit RPG Discussion Thread

To those of you who only played Final Fantasy 1-3, Dragon Warrior, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link and other RPGs of that era; you missed out big time!
There, I said it.

This opinion has been brewing inside of me since the early 1990s.
It feels really good saying this after so many years (old gamer here).
If you have seen the fantasy movie Willlow and you happen to love retro rpg gaming, then I can happily recommend purchasing and playing Willow.

Now I'm gonna fire up the new Pixel Remaster of Final Fantasy III bought here on Steam. I just finished Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster 1 & 2.
Looking forward to coming back to this thread later on and joining the retro rpg discussion.

Have a different opinion?
Or opinions in general on 8-bit and 16-bit RPG games? Please feel free to share! :)

Edit:
Willow is the best mainstream rpg on the Nes.

Edit 2:
OP might be actually be talking out his own ass. I'll be a bit more humble from now on.
Feel free to contribute any 8-bit or 16-bit rpg gaming related stuff at your own discretion.

Arcade is better game.
Not a Nes game, but granted. Willow Arcade is a good Action Adventure. ;)

The average person outside of Japan probably didn't play FF 2 & 3.

True. Back then we had to import physical games by mail service.

And be able to read Japanese.

(I don't remember if there were any differences between the cartridges too.)

Knowing Japanese would sure help, but many import games were easy to play and understand compared to the elaborate games these days.

There was always this friend who had a big brother who knew that guy or had access to a homemade manual guide.
Using the 'photocopy machine' and circulating tips & trricks.
We knew how to keep contacts (without the internet). Sharing physical games and console equipment was big back in my day. :)

Well i did.
Btw.. have any of you played the Lufia games on the Snes?
I never got around to playing them. Are they still good/worth a playthrough?

Also, still have some nice 16-bit memories of Illusion of Gaia and Soul Blazer <3

Edit: And Crystalis on the Nes <3

Edit2 : Secret of Mana was my favorite Snes rpg. :p_heart:

I'd guess you're not average. Were the Famicom cartridges any different from the NES ones?

Lots of people played FF IV & VI though on SNES.

Then you're not really the group of players I was talking about. I was referencing those way back when the games were originally released.
