Looking for top-down skyscraper shooter game. If it doesn't exist, let's make it together!
Specifically where if you're near the windows on a floor, you can see how far down to the ground it is (i.e. you can visually gauge your progress through a given level as you progress either up or down floors of a tall building. Essentially behaves like a 2D game, but the walls project toward you, similar to Frozen Synapse, Spy Chameleon, Daedalus No Escape, Metrocide, National Zombie Park and even GTA 2. If it doesn't exist, do you want to create it with me?

What's the learning curve with Unity vs GameMaker?
It's not too big of a difference. I actually think that Unity 3D is more professional and overall more dynamic as you can do more with it. Also, it would be better if you learned to script with either C# or Javascript than learning GML, as C# and Javascript could be applied elsewhere. Plus, there are plenty of tutorials to help get you started with Unity & the languages it supports compared to Gamemaker, which is really limited.

Thank you for the info, Gedalya! I've dabbled in Python and C, but I have SO much to learn...

Trust me, I could give you a reason to hate me by suggesting that you learn C++, BrainF***, Malbolge, etc. Or for sheer laughs, you could learn LOL Code.
I use GameMaker due to my large lack of coding knowledge. To me, the learning curve between GameMaker and Unity is bigger. I picked up GameMaker and started making games years ago. Last year, I tried Unity and I couldn't understand it.

Keep in mind I was self-taught, a video or tutorial would bore me. If I did take a tutorial I might be able to understand Unity.

It sounds like I need to look at Unity to get the depth of field that I see in my head. I will definitely need to look at tutorials and anything else that can supplement my lack of coding knowledge.
If you want to learn coding, I'd say the easiest way is going to Khan Academy (a website).

Thank you, Mjölgineer!
You're welcome!
Wow, that necro... Maybe we should carry this conversation somewhere else, like a group for example.
