In the future we will see downloadable games over 100 GB in file size?
I have read that the new game coming out by Chris Roberts Star Citizen will be at LEAST 100 GB....I am downloading Just Cause 3 and it took me a day to get that! And it was 38.5 GB.

Do you think in the future we will see downloadable games increase to that kind of size?

One thing is for sure...if they start getting that big, developers need to find a way to archive them to the smallest size possible and places like STEAM will have to start letting people download a week early before the game unlocks.

Games used to fit on a single 3.5" floppy drive. Now they are tens of gigabytes in size. It wouldn't surprise me to see a one terabyte game in the near future.

For average games? No, maybe not for another 10-20 years. For MMOs though, most are already 50GB+ because of all the patches and updates they get, so it wouldn't be surprising to see 100GB ones start popping up.

Before our time, there use to be something called a dial up modem, with a 14.4k to a whopping 56k bandwidth to download from Bulletin boards. That's 56 kilobits per second.

100GB over a 56k modem would take...
165.343915 days, that's 3968.25396 hours or 238095.2376 minutes.

They couldn't use the phone at the same time, while on it either.

Mommmmmmmmm, don't pick up the phone, I'm going on the internet for half a year downloading my game, okay! Plus I have no pause and resume option. Hope it doesn't get corrupted, I'll have to redownload it all from the start again.

At least it sounds cool:

Once this type of stuff becomes a problem they will just release the game on discs.

I sure hope so. It sucks having small downloads from Steam. :steammocking:

Well that's a more direct way of saying what I was attempting to suggest (without actually mentioning) in the above post.

No, why would it? It's the logic, I was getting others to click upon and work out for themselves.

While something might appear huge on our current connections, the connect speed will also improve over time with newer technology, making it much more easier to manage. Some people are overlooking that fact. The download size isn't really the issue, rather the ISP connection speed. Most countries, including my own, are well behind in this.

Biggest one I had was Final Fantasy XIII with 60 GB I think. I've got tons of games to play, and don't mind having the machine running while I sleep or something, so I can handle even more than that I suppose.

As technology advance's with video game's the size will too, I can imagine that one day there will be a 500GB game or even a 1TB game, but with size come's bigger space, just wait till someone make's something bigger then a TB.
