Game series which the second title rocked

There are a few game series which the second title deffined the franchise, and even became part of Videogame History.

Some of those franchises even gained notority after the second game, and ended up selling out, having the whole staff fired and got new releases by major studios and monopolies, selling hudreds of millions of copies, but ended up being souless revamp of the 2nd edition.

Yet we all remember dearly that second chapter that consagrated the series.

Which are some of those, in your opinion?

Here is a list I've thought of so far:

- Diablo II;
- Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2;
- Assassin's Creed 2.

Street Fighter and Megaman are the obvious ones.

Nobody remembers the first in both series.

Also, Metal Gear and Wolfenstein. Nobody paid attention to those series until the third game in both.

Only for console kids who couldn't experience the first one. Of course, Invisible War is notorious for the console limitations imposed on it's design.
