Game series which the second title rocked
There are a few game series which the second title deffined the franchise, and even became part of Videogame History.

Some of those franchises even gained notority after the second game, and ended up selling out, having the whole staff fired and got new releases by major studios and monopolies, selling hudreds of millions of copies, but ended up being souless revamp of the 2nd edition.

Yet we all remember dearly that second chapter that consagrated the series.

Which are some of those, in your opinion?

Here is a list I've thought of so far:

- Diablo II;
- Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2;
- Assassin's Creed 2.

Secret of Mana (i.e, Seiken Densetsu 2)
Mega Man 2 and Saints Row 2 seem like the most obvious answers to me.
Halo 2 is the worst Bungie halo
Lords of the Realm 2
Thief 2
GTA 2
System Shock 2

A couple of others that I can't remember.
Timesplitters 2
Age of Empires II
monster rancher 2
Diablo 2
Fallout 2
Red alert 2

Baldur's Gate 2 is a lot more famous than Baldur's Gate 1.

Also Civilization 2

And Master of Orion 2 which was rather different than Master of Orion 1 and much more influential. Which left the remake in an awkward spot of having fans want two totally different games out of it.

Jagged Alliance 2

Far Cry 2 basically defined the direction of the rest of the series, the first wasn't as open I think.

Just Cause 2 was also a bigger success than 1.

Special mention for Paradox games - Victoria and Crusader Kings are both FAR more obscure than their sequels.
