Why does ragebait exist
On Steam it's mostly to farm awards (Steam points). So, a tangible reward.

But what about ragebait on social media platforms? Won't the person posting receive mostly negative reception and a battered reputation? Are they hoping to recruit the minority who agree with them to their viewership? And if so, what do they do with this minority... push some product to sell, or i dont know... their cult???

If not that, then what? OK, so some ragebait successfully makes someone rage. With that accomplished, what is the goal that follows? Or is that literally the goal itself, like trolling- to upset someone on the internet.

genuinely curious. thanx in advance

ragebait gets the most views on platforms such as tiktok where it farms engagement from mass comments about the ragebait which in turn pushes it towards the top of algorithm to more people and the uploader gets a fatter paycheck out of it uwu
This OP, many corporate algorithms promote this type of """social""" engagement, to increase screen time / audience capture.

To bait people into raging, obviously.
Because it's boring to see a bunch of people getting along and singing kumbaya.

Insecurity from the OP of such.

Needs to think his existence is meaningful.

Rarely works for those with an intelligent quotient higher than 90.

People don't say trolling anymore, it's just ragebait now

Human nature is predictable.
If I ever 'rage' on OT then that would be the time to leave. I am better than that.

a lot of the time the accusation of trolling or posting ragebait is made falsely by someone who either disagrees and doesnt want to have a proper discussion about it or is simply a very non-confrontational type of person who suffers from high levels of anxiety.

debate or merely allowing people to have heated and passionate discussions about things seems to be a thing of the past in today's hyper-feminized society.
