Reminds me of a game called Metal Gear Solid 3. Ocelot tried to dampen the recoil with his Makarov just for the gun to jam.

I'd say that a automatic pistol isn't that useful since they have small magazines, and if you want more bullets you'd have to trade off the caliber making the bullet slower.

I'd say revolvers are great, but afaik there isn't many that you can put a laser and iron sights are a bit difficult.

That's not necessarily true, 18 bullets on average isn't that bad and you got some handguns with extended magazines that can have up to 30 bullets, not counting micro-SMG and the like.
