Doom 1 and 2.
Doom seems way too outdated to me.
Doom + Doom II are higher quality .
Doom + Doom II is contender for game with most content of all time. Custom doom wads and mods and wads for the mods and ports and it goes on...
I noticed that in Doom, at the highest difficulty levels, the adversaries will re-spawn during play.
In Halo they become more difficult by absorbing and dealing more damage.
I am not sure which one is more difficult. They're both relatively difficult games at the highest difficulty levels.
Doom is more difficult by far. The main problem is lack of ammo, because monsters respawn and lack of health/armor pickups because... monsters respawn. Halo has regenerating health and often you can pick up enemies weapons so you don't have that kind of restriction.

They were both released close to each other. Marathon was Apple's answer to Doom, but it ended up being so much more than that. There would be no Halo if it wasn't for Marathon and Halo very frequently references Marathon.
